A traditional Japanese home overlooking a stunning Japanese garden. If you’re wondering, yes, it has those sliding paper doors. The owner lives close by and we met him and his lovely wife the next morning after checking in. It was nice of them to take us on a quick tour around the area. The place is perfect for a relaxing peaceful stay. Isurugi station is five minutes away and there is a convenience store nearby.

I could not recommend staying at Machiya Kenroku highly enough. Our host's kindness and hospitality rivaled, and in fact surpassed that of many five star hotels I've stayed at. From the extensive personal touches, lovely recommendations, and the rich history and beauty of the home, you will be hard pressed to find a more unique and enriching stay. *Some* examples of the kind personal touches included with the stay are local sweets in the fridge upon arrival, a fresh ikebana arrangement in the living area, and an amazing hands on tour of the property and its priceless artifacts. This was easily my favorite stay during my time in Japan and I do hope to return one day. I strongly urge you to book your stay; you've come across quite the gem!
