I liked that this accommodation was pet friendly. The house was warm and cosy when we arrived. We had great communication from the owner who checked in with us via text at check-in and checkout. Some breakfast items and snacks were provided which we weren't expecting which was a lovely surprise. The games and puzzles provided were also an added nice touch.

When we were planning our holiday, accommodation was quite difficult to find. Railton was a fortunate find in a convenient location. Our room had an ensuite and we were pleased to find it had a fridge as well.
We ate at the hotel 3 times and I particularly liked the venison sausages and vegetables.

All three of us - including our dog - were made to feel very welcome. The room was clean and comfortable and the grounds are picturesque. Starting the day with a delicious cooked breakfast and ending the day with a craft beer and a netflix movie was an added bonus.

Sheffield is a small town in Northern Tasmania, set in a lovely area of hills with mountains in the distance. The town has interesting shops, and all the basic needs for supplies and meals out. Its main feature are the large murals painted on most major buildings in the town, depicting its history and wildlife. Definitely worth a drive and a wander through. It also has a good Information Centre and art gallery attached. It has a lot of outdoor attractions in summer such as hiking, bike riding and a lake for rowing events.

Sheffield is 11km from the property with two turns. Sheffield doesn't have a large selection of dining options so check your options if this matters to you. I was happy to self-cater for part of my stay.
I would happily return to Silver Ridge and plan to do so in 2024.

A beautiful area with comfortable cottage. We ate in the cottage one evening with food we had purchased and went into Sheffield on the other night. We ate at the Sheffield Hotel and enjoyed the meal. Travel around was easy.

Sheffield is small enough to walk around the main shopping street and big enough to find some murals and old architecture worth a look, dotted round the outskirts. A variety of businesses including a well stocked clothes store, a small supermarket and various galleries and eateries, plus the ubiquitous local pub serving pretty ordinary cutner meals.
Our favourite cafe Fudge'n' Good Coffee was closed unfortunately. We ate at The Blacksmiths Gallery and Cafe, which was... interesting. A huge collection of tea pots, a few of which were for sale. Lots of terrible local 'art' on the walls and all sorts of bric a brac and gifts. The menu was reasonable but the kitchen (you walk past on the way through to the gift shop and toilet) and the reception and coffee service area looked like they could all do with a damned good scrub or refurb. A good place to stop and stetch the legs or stay a night to break up a long trip.
This was our favorite place to stay in Tasmania! I wish we'd been able to stay more than one night. We came from a cold, windy, wet hike on Cradle Mountain to this wonderful haven. So many thoughtful touches like the fire setup, cozy bathrobes, a great tea selection, wine and beer available for purchase (really reasonably!) In the den, an incredibly comfortable bed with an electric blanket and so much great information about where to eat and things to do in the area. The place was amazing! Can't wait to come back.
Friendly staff. Clean facility.Quiet location looking out over green paddocks. Rabbits observed close to our windows frequently throughout our stay feeding on lush grass.
Walking distance to town centre.
Spacious rooms. Well equipt kitchen.
Multiple painted murals throughout town self tour.
Attended Tasmanian mural painting competition in town chatting with the artists. Very friendly locals.
Variety of great shops in Sheffield.
It was a great location not very remote but away from town traffic. We loved the area and the fact that parking was right infront of your room door so you can get and pack everything quickly while on holidays. Its also in close proximity of Cradle Mountain, Ashgrove, Melita, Launceston and Devenport. Milk supplied for coffee was amazing. It really was very good in taste which we usually dont get in Sydney.
Neil, the host made us very welcome. He is very friendly and good for a chat. He left us some treats on the table :) I accidentally left my housekeys behind and he was kind enough to post it to me without charge. The accommodation is well equipped, spacious and comfortable. It is located in the centre of Sheffield. Its close to all the services. I would highly recommend this place!

A quaint quarters nestled in a cottage garden. The Maid's Quarters was the perfect place to stay for our 1 night visit to Sheffield. The interior was stunning and everything you could want or need (and more) was provided. Snuggly bathrobes, Nespresso machine and beautifully curated breakfast including local jams, honey, granola and house-baked breads.
The nearness to Sheffield meant we could go get a nice latte in the morning.
The cabins are very well.provisioned. The views are spectacular and the hike to the Silverman, whether or not you go in to see glow worms is really nice.
It's not a bad drive to Cradle mountain National Park.
Fantastic location; close to Sheffield and not to far to Cradle, roomy, clean, great view to Mount Rolland, Silver mine on property dating to 1860 to explore (rubber boots and light torch provided), great host family, farm animals around, plenty but not to many roomy cabins on a slope.
Plenty of room. Comfortable amenities. Outstanding shower. Quietness of area. The fact that for the same price you gained 3 rooms rather than the hotel/motel room. That the owners anticipated your needs and provided suggestions for them. That Sheffield is such a picturesque area.
it had everything plus more that one could want. So handy to town and all the murals. An easy trip to surroundings towns as well. Loved the fireplace, complimentary port and chocolates 🍫 They went down very well. Special thanks to Marie you are a fantastic host.
Sheffield is a beautiful mural town with old charm. A very spacious quiet apartment, middle of Sheffield town, close to shops. Perfect place to stay for Cradle Mountain day trip. A big open kitchen space with Microwave and basic cutlery for your use.
The cabins were beautifully clean & so unique with the internal wood detail in the interior & furniture. It was so peaceful & quiet that we all slept so well in our very comfortable beds.
The hosts communicated with us very well too, much appreciated.
very spacious & close to center of Sheffield; when reported that a bedroom light wasn't working it was fixed very quickly (although host didn't ask permission to come in while we were away)
