Peaceful and centrally-located recently renovated place. You will have one room in a 3-bedroom apartment. I normally rent one room at a time: another room is for hosts and the third bedroom is often spare. The apartment is a 10-minute walk to Newcastle center. Free coffee, tea, linen, towels, shampoo, and some other amenities. There's a kitchen, living room, DVD player, bath, and washer. There is a large collection of DVDs, books and board games. Please note that 37 Portland Mews is accessible from the back and front. To get to the keyboxes, you need the front entrance (through the wooden gate, just turn the doorknob). When I am not at home, you need to get the keys, further instructions will be sent.
I am a Russian-born, US, and Dutch citizen, working as a lecturer at Northumbria University in Newcastle. I often travel with family or friends. We like to travel anywhere between Kazbegi in Georgia to Calcutta in India and Lapland in Finland - mostly backpacking and staying with locals. As a host, we are often there in person to welcome guests and show them around.
The house is located in Sandyford, bordering on South Jesmond, a small quiet district in central Newcastle upon Tyne, with the suburbs of Jesmond to the north and Heaton to the east. Close to restaurants, pubs, theatres, as well as parks and rest areas. It is easy to get around by metro (Manors, Jesmond, buses or just walking!) Cafes in the area, some within 2-minute walking distance, such as Davey Breakfasts and Sandwiches, Little Lobo and Small Cantine. Pubs: Bluebell and Tanner's Arms. Great parks: Heaton Park, Armstrong Park and Jesmond Dene.
