Yours hosts Charlotte and Phil took over the 10 bedroom Rickerby Grange Guest House, which is the heart of the Lake District national park and England’s latest Unesco World Heritage site, in January 2018. Charlotte, who likes nothing better than putting on a pair of running shoes and venturing outdoors, has, like so many who visit, fallen in love with The Lakes following her first trip over 15 years ago. While Phil’s upbringing, in the north west of England and weekend trips to The Lake District from a young age, had already resulted in an unhealthy obsession with Ordnance Survey maps and the fell walking routes of Alfred Wainwright. Charlotte’s career in public relations and Phil’s in journalism mean they love people and they love a challenge. They take pleasure in making people happy as it brings a smile to their faces and a sense of satisfaction. Charlotte and Phil are committed to offering guests a stay that means they can truly enjoy the comfort, the location, the food, the people and touches of luxury, including scrumptious breakfasts, good coffee, a lie in, a guest lounge to relax in and a warm place to hang up a pair of muddy walking boots.

Rickerby Grange is a great place from which to explore and to share our passion for the area, as well as a place to rest weary feet and relax. It’s a place that’s happy to provide a personal touch - a few maps, the odd book and a bit of local knowledge if needed. Rickerby Grange, which has been welcoming travellers and holidaymakers through it’s doors for nearly 100 years, is just a short 15 minute flat walk to the relative hustle and bustle of Keswick. Our doubles provide a real sense of space and comfort. While our family rooms are the perfect choice for those with children and the guest house is happy to welcome dogs - free of charge - in selected rooms. There’s also free car parking for all guests, and from then on there’s no real need to get behind the wheel again, unless you want to venture further afield. A public footpath which runs directly from Rickerby Grange will take you into some of the finest fell walking country in the land, including the iconic Catbells, Grisedale Pike, (often referred to as the ‘The Lakeland Matterhorn’) and Skiddaw, the peak that dominates the area. The village of Portinscale, itself, is on the north westerly tip of arguably, the Lake District’s most attractive lake, Derwentwater- overlooked by Skiddaw, Cat Bells and Causey Pike and yet within easy walking distance of the attractive town of Keswick and its many amenities. The village hosts a boat club and marina with sailing, wind-surfing and canoeing facilities and if seeking a meandering walk with glorious views, why not take the bridge over the River Greta and the footpath in to Keswick.
