Property info

Welcome to the Twa Dogs Inn. We are a friendly community focussed pub with 3 letting rooms and are the first hostelry you see as you arrive in Keswick from the west. We currently operate on a room-only basis, NO BREAKFAST IS AVAILABLE. Our kitchen is open 12:00pm-8:00pm Mon-Sat, 12:00pm-6:00pm Sunday. Having recently taken over the property, we are in the process of slowly updating the pub and while our rooms are a little 'dated', they are clean and warm! We are a cheap and cheerful alternative to a B&B or hotel and you will always get a warm and friendly welcome from staff and customers alike. We have our own car park which you are welcome to use during your stay. Check-in is from 2pm on day of arrival and check-out at 11am on day of departure. We are a ten minute walk from the centre of Keswick and an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and dog owners. You can access the Keswick-Threlkeld railway path immediately behind the pub, which can then take you onto Latrigg, Skiddaw, Blencathra and beyond. We are also on the C2C cycle route (NCN71) and can offer security for your bikes if required. For dog owners, we accept up to 2 dogs per room at no additional charge and are directly opposite a park if your pooch needs an early morning or late night walk. We are also a short walk from Castlerigg Stone Circle and an early morning visit to this amazing location is well worth an early start and is a must-see for any visitor. The pub itself is open from 12noon - 11pm (sometimes later) so please be aware there may be the noises you associate with a traditional pub, such as music, laughter, chat and cellar equipment. If you are staying with us we very much hope you can come and join us for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere...

Neighborhood info

Nestled in a glacial valley on the shores of Derwentwater, Keswick is England's premier mountain town and jewel in the crown of the northern Lake District National Park - a world heritage site. Surrounded on every side by fells and mountains, you always have a stunning view! Originally an ancient market town, Keswick has for many years welcomed visitors to its many cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs. Despite its size, the town boasts an award-winning cinema and theatre, both open all year round. There are also a number of art galleries and specialist shops and a significant number of all businesses in the town still independently owned. Keswick also hosts a number of events, including very successful beer, jazz and cinema festivals. Being a mecca for outdoor activities, the town is also host to the Keswick Mountain Festival, the Lakesman Ironman Triathlon, and is on the Fred Whitton route - arguably the UKs toughest cycling sportive. There is some form of organised running, cycling or swimming event taking place every week, with a very popular Park-Run taking place along the Keswick-Threlkeld railway line path every Saturday morning. The town has an obvious appeal to those loving life outdoors and can be used as a base for walking and cycling holidays. In additional to on-foot or two-wheel access onto the fells and mountains, through the passes and along the lakesides, it is only a short distance away from Honister Slate Mine and Whinlatter Forest - both well worth a visit while in the area. Keswick is easy to access by car, being only 15 miles from J40 of the M6. If travelling by train, the nearest train station is at Penrith with regular busses leaving from directly outside the station. In addition to walking and cycling, Keswick can also be used to explore the wider area by bus or car. The A591 runs to the south of the town and goes to Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal, with the A66 taking you north to the attractive town of Cockermouth.
