Make sure you book your tickets to the acropolis ahead of time early morning or evening are the best times. Safe and very clean city it does have a lot of written graffiti. Make sure you have the Gyros at the metro square by the flea market. Go to the restaurant behind the little church and in the corner of the walking street. They have the take away ones but if you get a beer they will let you sit at the tables. Also don’t forget to enjoy the gelato, and the street corn on the cob

I recommend visiting this city in April, May, October and November. But we swam in the sea even in January ;-) We also always shop at Hondos Center on Omonia Square...

I have mixed feelings about Athens as a whole. I knew it was a big city but it had more a big city feel versus a traditional Greek feel than I expected. The main strip with the tourist attractions was good, not too crowded in early May which was nice. But the city does have a really big and sad drug and homeless problem. It wasn't safe for me, as a solo female traveler, to walk around past 7pm and I saw some things that were really heartbreaking to witness. The history of the city and the food were amazing and beautiful but you just have to be mentally and emotionally prepared to take in both sides of the city while you're there as it's unavoidable.AlyssaUnited States of America - 10Scored 10

I have never been to Athens before, but this was my first trip here and I absolutely loved it. The food is delicious and the prices are quite similar to other countries I have visited, so I did not find them expensive. If you walk around and explore, you will find many economic and excellent options for food. I did not face any issues related to transportation. However, I heard from the locals that it's important to be careful with your bag and phone and avoid wearing gold jewellery to avoid any unpleasant situations.HELEMMalta
