Here there are shops, like supermarkets, bars, restaurants, and services like, banks, finance companies, courts, judicial offices, etc. The birth of the neighborhood is linked to the construction of an oratory by the religious of the Confraternity of Maria Santissima di Monserrato which took place in 1672, in an area of the eastern part of the city of Catania. After the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed the city, the Church of the Madonna di Monserrato was subsequently built next to the oratory, and from then on the area therefore took on the name of Monserrato. A rural village until the second half of the 19th century, the architect Bernardo Gentile Cusa in his master plan for the rehabilitation and expansion of the city of Catania in 1888, in which he proposed the lengthening of Via Monserrato. In the following decades, the neighborhood was gradually incorporated into the urban fabric of Catania starting from the second half of the 20th century, with the construction of modern and imposing residential buildings which led to the creation of new streets and squares in the northern area.
