This 1930s bungalow is sprawled across 98 acres of a tea plantation, at the foot of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Enjoying stunning scenery in the Sri Lankan countryside, Ashburnham Estate offers Sri Lankan cooking classes, a guided tea estate tour and an on-site 40-foot waterfall. Well-decorated and spacious, all guestrooms and suites come with an private bathroom. Some rooms have a private terrace, or direct access to the gardens. Ashburnham Estate is 1.2 mi from Elkaduwa Bus Terminal, 8.7 mi from Wattegama Railway Station and 14 mi from Polgolla Reservoir Airport in Kandy. It is 16 mi from the Temple of the Tooth and 20 mi from the Royal Botanical Gardens. The Dambulla Cave Temples are 34 mi away. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. In 2004, British banker David Swannell purchased the Ashburnham Estate, marking a new chapter in its history. He has lovingly restored the estate while preserving its colonial charm. The main bungalow, dating back to the 1930s, was transformed into a boutique hotel, blending historical colonial architecture with modern comforts.

Ashburnham Estate is a charming boutique hotel set amidst a 100 acre historic working tea plantation located in Sri Lanka's Central Province, near the town of Kandy. With stupendous views over the Hill Country and graced by cascading waterfalls, this colonial homestead truly is a sight to behold. Ashburnham Estate is graced with a stunning 45-foot waterfall that flows beautifully year-round. Visiting it is an absolute must, and for the adventurous, standing under it for a refreshing 'power shower' is an unforgettable experience. We also have smaller waterfalls, a serene cascade pool, and numerous trails that invite you to wander along and explore. Guests frequently commend the peaceful atmosphere, the historical ambiance of the bungalow, the quality of the food, and the variety of activities. The estate is often highlighted as a special place for those looking to disconnect and immerse in nature and culture.
