Reonaldo, the host, makes every effort to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Considering that these are cabañas, they are roomy and comfortable. Within a 40-metre walk, you are on the beach for a glorious sunset. He has recommendations for local tours and a restaurant on the beach. BTW, his coffee is the best flavored on this side of the Yucatan península.

The motel is directly on the beach and with lounge chairs and swings. Courtyard has palapa with seating and a convenient water dispenser (hot and cold). Surrounded by seafood restaurants. Faces beautiful sunsets in the evening. The room was clean and it was nice to have a small refrigerator with a freezer.

We liked the hotel but there were a couple things worth noting beforehand. 1. The place only accepts cash, which is fine, but you also have to sign a contract when you arrive. In the contract, they basically say they will charge you for sheets if you need to replace them ($20USD - the sheets were definitely not that nice), and a bunch of other random rules. I’ve stayed at hotels all over Mexico (Baja California, Chiapas, DF, etc) and never seen a contract like this. It should be a part of the hotel’s business model, not a way to nickel and dime customers. 2. The hotel is not actually on the beach, and parking is not next to the hotel. 3. Staff were not capable of very basic hotel staff capabilities - for example I wanted to know if they could contact a restaurant in town and they said they didn’t have the information. I didn’t have the info either but was able to find it in a 30 second google search. This was disappointing and their attitude throughout the stay.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Manglares. Rodrigo is an amazing host, he was extremely helpful, friendly, and gave us lots of recommendations (and was even patient enough to speak in Spanish with me so I could practise!) The room was huge and had a lovely balcony facing the sea. The bathroom was functional and clean, if a little dated but not a problem. Loved that the room has a separate sink not in the bathroom, very useful. Location is good, out of the main part of town so nice and quiet all the time. Walk from room down the beach to main restaurants area was around 6-8mins.

The hotel is located in a beautiful beach club, which I highly recommend visiting. However, I advise against staying at the hotel itself. It’s overpriced for what it offers and lacks both dinner and breakfast options. Once the beach club closes, you'll need to find dinner in Celestún, which isn’t ideal in the evenings. In summary, I suggest enjoying the beach club during the day without the expense of staying at the hotel.

It seems very new and it was quiet and clean. They have an awesome beach that is out of the way from the main part of town so it was pretty private. Lots of parking. We only stayed on night and it may have been an oversight rather than a regular practice. The views are gorgeous and you can walk along the beach into the main part of town. We will likely be coming back.

Lots of beach activities. restaurants where you can sit with your feet in the sand and enjoy the view of the sea. Great spot for bird watching and nature touring. There are many varieties of interesting places to explore. Celestun people are super friendly and helpful. I personally recommend David Bacab as a tour guide. He lives in Celestún and is very knowledgable. Visit him at Casa Bacab coffee shop.

I'm a birder, so experiencing the boat trip to see the Amerian Flamingos was unforgettable for me (and all the other birds of the Celestun area!!!) Also, Celestun faces west across the Gulf of Mexico, so the sunsets are beautiful. The town is an amazing cultural experience too. The people are wonderful. The LONG stretch of beach is quiet and clean. Motor taxis are everywhere if you don't have a car. See David at the coffee shop Casa Bacab for remarkable guided birding.

Celestun is not a pretty town, but its proximity to the mangroves and flamingos makes it special. (It's a Unesco site.) The beachside restaurants offer great seafood (coconut shrimp! ceviche!) and the prices are pretty good. Since they close down at nightfall, there are some good options in town around the main square. We didn't do a tour of the mangroves, since we had done that a few years ago, but that and seeing the flamingos are very popular activities. The beach is popular with lots of shells along the shore, and a lovely sandy bottom when you're in the water. We aren't big 'beach people' but we really enjoyed our stay and will come back again, I'm sure. We took a bus from Merida (very inexpensive at 68 pesos each way per person) -- lots of stops along the way, but the other alternatives are a rental car or a tour. This worked for us!

For birdwatching: Guardians de Los Manglares de Dzinintun.

For birdwatching: Guardians de Los Manglares de Dzinintun. We did the kayak tour and our guide Zac really enhanced our experience. When we spent the rest of the day on the beach, we could identify almost every bird we saw. Get a big meal at one of the beachside restaurants around 3ish (my favorite was La Palapa), and then a small meal of tacos or tortas in the town square around 8. It's important to know that the beaches are full of shells. A pro for some travelers and a con for others.

    This place is paradise .

This place is paradise . It’s under developed yes but that’s part of its charm. Wish there were a bit more facilities and better hotels around but at the same time nothing to fancy or big developments because it’s a conservation area so it really should be cared for and treated properly and with respect. The nature there is outstanding . More of the right eco friendly investment in the area would make it a superb destination. The flamingos and sunset are like nothing else I have seen before.

A lovely place to stay for a few nights - we weren't sure whether celestun would be for us, but the reviews for this place convinced us and we were extremely glad we came! The accomodation is very comfortable, a minute from the beach and the team working there are lovely. We didn't have a car, so got a taxi there from Merida and were offered free use of the bikes to get around. It was brilliant and we'd highly recommend!
