Beautiful city full of life and history. If you like traveling to Europe from the USA, but hate the long flight and the expense, try Merida. Merida is an old city founded by Spain on top of an old mayan site. The city is abundant with beautiful public squares, historic and brightly colored buildings, live music, dining in the streets, and world class restaurants. Not too mention incredible street food. AND YOU CAN LIVE LIKE A KING FOR CHEAP! Amazing 5 star hotels for about $70 usd per night. We had an amazing 12 course tasting menu at Kook for $90 USD per person. There are so many great day trips you can do from this city. Cenotes, beaches, mayan ruins. I would love to rent an apartment for two months here ($600 USD per month) and see it all. Lots of police presence (this is a good thing). Lots of European tourists. Taxis are cheap. I'd recommend not driving yourself as all the streets are one way and if you are not familiar with driving in Mexico it can be scary in this town. Stop lights seems to be more of a suggestion than a rule. If you travel away from the historic city center you will discover some affluent neighborhoods with a very modern feel. I was only there two nights. I will be back.
I liked the old buildings, historic places and monuments in paseo Montejo sightseeing tour, downtown churches and cathedral and handcrafted market. Eating local food. Also visiting museums. Visiting puerto progreso and eating in Eladio’s see food restaurant
The variety and selection of restaurants is amazing, so much to do eat, and drink. Hotels and transportation to get around this large city is very affordable . Such an amazing city, with so much history and architect.
Merida Yucatan Mexico for me is a very dear and special place I lived there back in '97. I have friends there and there's nothing like taking in the sites like Chichen Itza, Progreso, Merida en Domingo (Merida in Sunday) which is when they close down the streets to traffic and you can walk freely and enjoy the little shops that set-up to sale food, drinks and all types of souvenirs. The restaurant's and it's people are awesome how the greet you treat you. The museum's are just as overwhelmingly awesome.
Merida is a well organized city. Extremely clean and very safe.Downtown has all facilities: historic sites, museums, free wi-fi in main plaza, and a variety of restaurants. There are cultural activities every evening, including a Maya football game. A city one wants to return.
El centro historico es muy bonito así como la comida. No olvides ir por una nieve del Colon, comer en la Chaya Maya. Debes buscar tortas de cochinita un domingo por la mañana, preferentemente en un puesto de la calle para mejorar la experiencia

Jean Pierre and Gina were super helpful - we actually felt really welcomed and comfortable. Prior to our stay we were wondering if we could get more info about Mérida and to our delight, Jean was sharing with us as much as he could so that we knew how to get around the place. JP is a really chill person and we couldn’t have asked for a better b&b to stay at. The place is absolutely whimsical: it serves as an art gallery!!! And yes, all the reviews raving about breakfast are true, so delicious, perfect mix of French and Yucatan cuisine.

I have my own small hotel Casa Blanca Boutique in Cancún and for me every time is interesting another hotels. What owners do for they guests, whar installation have a rooms. So this hotel are in historic building after renovation and rooms looks modern. Comfortable mattress and new clean bedsheets and towels. Big TV in room and good A/C. So it will have been comfortable but one bad moment, at 7am really loud music otside. Maybe it not happen every morning but it really uncomfortable if you tired and would like to sleep more.

A beautiful boutique hotel within walking distance of the main plaza and cathedral downtown. It’s an old Spanish mansion near downtown Merida that’s been converted into this charming boutique hotel. They do have an associated locked and secure parking lot just down the block. The bedrooms do have AC. With a beautiful open hacienda style courtyard for the included breakfast. We’ll definitely choose Viva Merida again for future Merida trips.

Very good quality/price! Would definitely recommend this hotel. The staff was super friendly and can help you with nearly everything. Communication in english was also no problem. It was the best shower + the best WiFi on our mexico-trip so far. Short walking distance to the city center. Very clean and comfortable. Thank you again that we were able to check in earlier - it was so nice after the long bus ride! :)

Large hotel, with all the amenities you might need. Coffee maker in room, large king sized bed, little balcony to step outside and lovely bathroom. We used Merida as a base to explore various cenotes in the area, and this hotel is close to many restaurants- many of which are American but still ok. Close to the cultural centre and helpful friendly staff.
