Relatively quiet for a large city. Great maintenance of histio-culutral features of the Spanish colonial era. Safe and easy to move around once you understand the Centro street numbering system. Authentic!
We were here in Sunday and were able to enjoy the street vendors on calle 60. People are friendly.Direction to places a bit confusing.Street numbers didn't always make sense to us but eventually able to find where we needed to go.
This old colonial city is full of life and culture. Its a wonderful place to walk and wonder the streets or as a base to visit the archeological sights nearby. The food ranges from local restaurants like Restaurante Los Almendros, upscale Mayan restaurants like The Museum of Mayan Gastronomy but wonder international fare like Peruano.
Merida is a great city to explore. We loved the Museo de Arte Popular, MACAY and Anthropology Museum and Mercado. The city is very walkable and Meridians are friendly and helpful. We found some amazing restaurants and would recommend Apaola and the restaurants at YAAX. The dinner we had at YAAX was truly special.....try the salmon starter! The city really comes to life at night with different performances -music, dance, spoken word-in the evening at the Centro squares. There is much to see and do in Merida. We will definitely be back!
Merida is the home of the Mayan people with ruins, carriage rides, musuens, delishous food, market places, art, etc... not to be missed.Wonderful people, warm people, a very different culture than the rest of Mexico. If you go to the Yucatan you want to experience Merida.
Merida is wonderful. It has a bit of everything -- art, shopping, great food, and is a good base for side-trips to see the beach and wildlife as well -- but still has the feel of an undiscovered (or under-discovered) gem. The locals are really warm and kind, and there is a lot to explore. Some of my favorites: Shopping - Case Tho Concept House (a handful of shops plus a cafe in a gorgeous all-white space on Paseo Montejo); Coqui Coqui for exquisite scents (perfumes and home diffusers), Ki Xocolate (excellent chocolate) Eats - Manjar Blanco, La Negrita (for drinks and botanas), POLA Gelato (the one on Calle 55 is bigger and offers more flavors than the one on Calle 60), Wayan'e for amazing tacos (but go earlier because they always sell out) Sidetrips - Celestun to see the flamingos and other wildlife (a tour through the mangroves is really cool). I took a tour with Mangroves of Dzinitun and I highly recommend them. Definitely also take some time to explore the cenotes (sinkholes) which is one of the most magical things about this region! Renting a car is easy and affordable and the best way to get to the cenotes, and even though I had heard negative things about driving in Mexico, I had a great experience. Roads were well maintained. Even when I did get stopped by a police officer for poor driving (it was my fault as I made a swervy turn at one of huge roundabouts), he was very respectful about explaining to me why he stopped me. Highly recommend Merida. I'd love to come back again soon.

Jean Pierre and Gina were super helpful - we actually felt really welcomed and comfortable. Prior to our stay we were wondering if we could get more info about Mérida and to our delight, Jean was sharing with us as much as he could so that we knew how to get around the place. JP is a really chill person and we couldn’t have asked for a better b&b to stay at. The place is absolutely whimsical: it serves as an art gallery!!! And yes, all the reviews raving about breakfast are true, so delicious, perfect mix of French and Yucatan cuisine.

I have my own small hotel Casa Blanca Boutique in Cancún and for me every time is interesting another hotels. What owners do for they guests, whar installation have a rooms. So this hotel are in historic building after renovation and rooms looks modern. Comfortable mattress and new clean bedsheets and towels. Big TV in room and good A/C. So it will have been comfortable but one bad moment, at 7am really loud music otside. Maybe it not happen every morning but it really uncomfortable if you tired and would like to sleep more.

A beautiful boutique hotel within walking distance of the main plaza and cathedral downtown. It’s an old Spanish mansion near downtown Merida that’s been converted into this charming boutique hotel. They do have an associated locked and secure parking lot just down the block. The bedrooms do have AC. With a beautiful open hacienda style courtyard for the included breakfast. We’ll definitely choose Viva Merida again for future Merida trips.

The property is gorgeous and homely. It’s a 5 minute uber ride from the noisy centre. The best sleep I’ve had in Mexico was at this place. The best part were the owners Ruben and his delightful wife. They make the most amazing breakfast and will take the time to explain everywhere you can go and how to get there. I just loved it there and will be certainly going back when I return to Merida. Best accomodation I had in Mexico.

They had activities on but some were a little weird and not very well promoted. Great pool area for relaxing. Great vibe with the other travellers. Fantastic new private rooms that were really spacious and well designed, more like a boutique hotel than a hostel.
