I like Whakatane area it has some great shop's, but when were in the Bay of Plenty we spend most of our time in beautiful Matata and Kawerau visiting with whanau. The beaches in Matata are truly beautiful, Matata is another great place to visit it's 20mins out of Whakatane great for fishing.

Whakatane is great for walkers with plenty of paths and toilets. Its family friendly and very clean. Pedestrian crossings seem to be missing but the locals were great and stopped at all the courtesy stops. We found some great places to eat and notes the town had more than everything you would need. Impressive little place for a short stay.

Whakatane has a huge variety of shopping stores, eating facilities, bars, hairdressers in fact everything really and for everyone. The Hub which is just across the bridge is another shopping area with Kmart and Briscoe being my favourites but again shopping for everyone. Bunnings the huge warehouse is a goldmine easy to get carried away when shopping there. The walkway/cycling lane along the waterfront is an awesome stroll. Accomodation....heaps to choose from....you have to visit to appreciate Whakatane.

We loved Whakatane.
We loved Whakatane. Wandering around the shops or along the river was lovely. We enjoyed watching the boats and everyone was very friendly. Over the hill at Ohope Beach was brilliant for sea swimming.
Where to begin...what a brilliant place to stay. From the friendly welcome, the thorough tour and explanation of the room and its features, the space of the modern room, the cleanliness, the most comfortable bed, the convenient central location, the wifi access and even the price - it was all A++. One of the best motels I've ever stayed in, so professional in its presentation and well operated by management. I could not recommend this motel more highly!
Clean facilities, board games, all the facilities like our own home, host was hospitable, texted us a welcome and instructions on self check in. Great to have space and self contained facilities after being in a hotel room for 3 nights. Especially washing machine after 3 days if Waka ama Nationals. Even up to date magazines. Breakfast cereal, milk and bread. Thank you Vince a great host.
Stayed here 1-2 nights a week for several months while working in Whakatane. Good budget accomodation with old but comfortable rooms. The receptionist, Nok, would let me check in early if the room was ready. Note that the single with ensuite also has a TV, which the single with shared bathroom does not. Will probably stay here again if I stay in Whakatane.
The staff were so amazing and generous considering the visitors we had, But again so considerate and friendly would recommend to anyone wanting to stay anywhere in Whakatane. We had pre drinks in our motel before we went to our event and they let us on the Table outside and even brought us some light. Thank yous once again for the awesome Hospitality.
We appreciated our stay at the Cortez. It accommodated our family. We near had the entire complex to ourselves as we had booked in advance, this could've been a nightmare for hotel owners, however, they were so relaxed and accommodating that we chose to spend most of our time at the motel. We will definitely be booking with them again.
This was a very affordable room. It's an old hotel, so not modern facilities and shared common room, kitchen and bathrooms. I paid a bit more for a room with it's own ensuite. Very strong WiFi and the bar is right downstairs. You are located right in the hub of the night life.
best holiday park ever! the family cabin we had with two rooms was spacious and super clean. the beds comfortable and everything impeccable. the staff super nice and the whole park absolutely well maintained!! better than any hotel family room/apartment we had in NZ so far.
The place is really comfortable and we have everything we need. We have seen how they maintain the cleanliness in the vicinity specially the rooms, they really maintain it well (we booked the executive room with spa)... We will book again soon as we visit Whakatane again!!!
The hotel staff super welcoming and friendly.
Room was comfy, lots of room, kitchen facilities all provided, shower facilities provided an overall great stay.
Extra bedding available and air con available would definitely stay again 💯💯
Jill was pleasant, friendly and kind. The Landing Motel is our favourite Whakatane accomodation because it’s clean, inviting, warm and the spa bath is a real treat for us, healing and soothing for our tired working bodies.
This is quite possibly the best motel we have stayed at in New Zealand! Spacious, immaculate, comfortable, quiet and great value for money. It outperforms most Hotels I stay at for business travel too!
The unit was really clean & very reasonable in price . It had generous , thoughtful touches. The location was close to the main area of Whakatāne . It was a great place to stay thanks .
We're reasonably experienced travellers and 37 The Landing Motel would easily rate as one of the best motels we've ever stayed at. Friendly staff, spacious accommodation and very clean.
