FAQs about hotels in Bucharest

Where Modern Meets Old

A fascinating mix of old and new, Bucharest is one of those cities where you can find a futuristic structure of glass and steel next to an old church, separated by a Communist-style massive edifice. Not overwhelmed by its dark past, the city is now turning its optimistic face towards the West.

Undergoing constant modernisation processes, the city continually changes and new modern structures pop up in the city centre and beyond. Great examples are the stunning Basarab Bridge, Europe’s widest cable-stayed bridge, and the City Gate Towers.

Whilst admiring the new, don’t miss out on the old classics, like the Parliament Palace, the world’s second largest building, with over 3100 rooms and impressive marble interiors covering 330,000 m². Make sure you admire the view from Nicolae Ceauşescu's balcony!

To fully appreciate the city’s long history, from Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula) to the ’89 revolution, the city offers free guided walking tours, giving you a great opportunity to discover all the city’s secrets. And spot all the best shopping venues!

Before you land at Bucharest Airport, just 18 km from the city centre, make sure you check what Booking.com has to offer: from hotels to apartments, just a few clicks away!

Bucharest Is an interesting city of a mix of French and communist buildings Has bars and restaurants in the old town and most of the action is here also a very safe city , but if you’re prepared to walk or just go on trips there’s still other options like the The parliament Palace , Beautiful old small churches, lovely parks and the waterfalls also Dracula castle & Peleş castle which is stunning day trip , 3 days is plenty . Transport very easy from airport into city cost £1.00 , Bucharest main railway station is in desparte need of modernisation . Taxi are very cheap just download bolt app &2 lines on metro .

Many buildings and a lovely park with a lake (with row boats for hire) are within walking distance in the main city. There is a bus (100) that takes people between the airport and the main city but ensure you buy a ticket as security will make you pay 10x the bus fare without a ticket ($2 x 10 = $20). On the weekend, the street Calle Victorei was blocked to traffic so it was lovely walking along the street to look at shops, eat in restaurants or just buy an ice-cream. There are many restaurants nearby. The water park (There Bucuresti) is worth visiting and so is the long day trip to visit the castles (Peles and Bran) - along the way you will get a view of the Arc Triumph.

It exceeded the expectations I had about the city, I enjoyed the visit, I felt safe on the street. I didn't like to see many abandoned buildings, the lack of information for visitors and difficulty to find out the name of the streets and a bit of lack of friendliness from people, especially in the service.

Bucharest is a place not often considered by many people but...

Bucharest is a place not often considered by many people but they could be missing out. I have twice been for about 8/9 days (dental treatment!) but have managed to take in some really interestings tours like a walking tour about Communist times, tour of the massive Parliament building and the home of the ex dictator. It's a really easy and cheap city to get aound with the airport bus being 3 Lei each way, a week's metro ticket just 30 Lei, and Bolt/Uber at times ridiculously cheap to me - a 10/15 minute journey could be as low as 12 Lei and to/from the airport between 50-70 Lei.. I wasn't brave enough to try the buses but a few times did use the Bolt/Uber scooters that are to be found everywhere. I never found language an issue with particularly the young and staff in the main central area to be quite fluenet in english but it's always nice to be able to say at least please/thank you in Romanian. I particularly enjoyed walks in some of the huge parks with lakes like Tineretului which has a metro station close to its entrance, or Herastrau where you can rent pedalos and kayaks or go on a boat ride round the lake as well as having numerous restaurants (some over the water) - be warned though it is several miles to walk fully round it so best to narrow down which segment you want to visit. Shopping seemed very limited in the city centre but if yu need some retail therapy I'd reccomend Park Lake Mall - as the name suggest it's located next to yet another park with a lake. If you don't mind a bt of waking take the metro to Titan and walk to the mall through the park.

A nice city to visit for a few days.

A nice city to visit for a few days. It has an old town, lots of historical places and museums such as The Palace of Parliament. The city has lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. A day trip to Transylvania with a visit to Bran/ Dracula's Castle is a highlight of the trip.

Location is in one of the, if not the, best neighborhood in old town, with parking right in front of the hotel. An easy few minutes walk to the very center, next to the Athenee and the National Gallery. The historic lobby is gorgeous, the rooms spacious and impeccably clean, and as we’ve mentioned in our other room’s review, a staff that goes above and beyond in every detail. I’ve passed by our other two options of hotels and I’m so glad we chose IC Athenee. Do not hesitate, this is the best place to stay in town!

Great hotel within walking distance (10-15 mins with luggage) of Bucharest North station, and 25-30 mins of Old Town/Parliament Palace/Central Park. We did most of our sightseeing on foot from here (though we did put in the miles!). Helpful staff who minded our bags and sorted an early check-in for us. Nice buffet breakfast with a decent selection of cereals, fruit, cheese, meat, eggs, yogurt, tomatoes etc. Decent all-round budget hotel.

We visited Bucharest to visit Therme Spa but wanted to stay in the city centre. This hotel is well located, very close to metro, bus and trams. Lots of places of interest within walking distance, including restaurants. The 21 tram takes you to Obor Market and the 100 bus takes you to the airport. En route you will see Herastrau Park, Palace of Parliament and Arch of Triumph. From the airport you can take the 442 to Therme Spa.
