Great place to spend a day or two, depending on how many of the attractions you want to see first hand. We did a 1 day trip, caught the ferry from Wharf 4 at the Circular Quay, and spent the day walking around and mostly looking at the animals. We attended the seal show, which was great, and caught some of the bird show. In all, the zoo is amazing due to it's size and layout, but there is a lot of construction going on and it has somewhat of an un-maintained feel to it in some areas. Some of the animal enclosures are just empty and there are a few attractions that are all barricaded off, but at the same time, it is evident that work is being done in these areas. Take a water bottle if you plan on walking around as there are refill stations all about the place.
Well worth a visit while in Sydney, there is extensive building work ongoing so once this is completed will make the experience even better, the cable car is a really great way to get started and is included in the entry fee, we drove to the zoo and parking was easy, slightly disappointed as it was only by luck we saw a tiger or monkey, otherwise fine, could do with more interaction with visitors like La palmyre zoo in France
With out doubt this Zoo is located in the most scenic spot in the world with Sydney Harbour and the city as the backdrop ..... its a must do if in sydney......, get the ferry to Milsons Point and have a bite to eat at the many Cool eat spots or pubs
A must see in Sydney. A very quick ferry ride from Circular Quay. You could easily spend an entire day here and we did. Lots to see and do and great zoo keeper talks that are engaging and informative. So many wonderful photo opportunities of the zoo and with the harbour, taking in the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and city as a back drop, who could ask for anything more. A fantastic children’s interactive trail area and a wonderful playground near the lemur enclosure makes this an amazingly interactive and educational adventure. Taronga Zoo is a MUST on your visit to Sydney. Highly recommend.
Best zoo I ever seen! Its a long 3-4hours average walk but its worthy. Lots of animals to see. The place has an awesome view of sydney too. Each animal enclosure is specifically designed to the natural habitat of each animals. free ride of gondala going to zoo entrance.
The highlight of our trip to Sydney. We took advantage of the flat fee of $18 all day parking on site. Booking online via Taronga Zoo saves 10-20% on admission and the Companion Card is accepted and provides free entry for Carers. The Zoo itself is visually stunning, firstly due to the scenic views of Sydney, its Harbour and surrounding homes, secondly and more importantly due to the animals and their environments. Often you felt immersed within it such was the hands on experience provided in many of the themed sections. The opportunity to get so close to wallabies, parrots, farmyard animals and water dragons was a delight. We spent three hours there and could happily have stayed much longer if not for our tight two day schedule. I commend the staff and volunteers for their commitment to such a high standard of presentation and provision of visitor experiences, their friendly and helpful manner and most importantly the high standard of living environments for the animals.
Taronga Zoo has a various animals that you won't see at other Zoos within Australia, so it was very exciting.
