Edinburgh Castle

Stretching down 30 metres, this tree-like coral shelf lies at the centre of a beautiful garden of gorgonians. It’s in these plants that the rare pygmy seahorse sets up home, which makes Amed Wall your best shot of catching a glimpse. Reef sharks and sea turtles also roam these waters, so there’s no shortage of deep-sea wonders to gawk at.

Having a tour guide is recommended and you should plan on starting the tour around midday so that you get to see the canon firing at 1 pm. You do need to be able to walk on cobblestones and walk uphill. Not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobiity

In order to truly understand a country, it is essential to first become acquainted with its history, as well as its cultural and ethnographic heritage. The tour I took part in at Edinburgh Castle was led by an outstanding guide who skillfully maintained our interest throughout the experience. With a touch of humor, she presented only the most important and noteworthy highlights, making the tour both engaging and informative.

Love it!

Love it! Took us longer than anticipated to walk around due to the crowds, in September. We pre-purchased out tickets for 11 a.m. thinking we'd end with the 1 p.m. gun salute. However, earlier crowds were still there at 11 a.m. and it just got busier and busier. It became tough to really enjoy the exhibits and the interior rooms got quite warm (it was wet the day we were there so we were carrying jackets). There were also lines to get into various spaces. When we left at 2 p.m. the line ups to get in were wild and I can't imagine what their experience would have been like. I would highly recommend getting your tickets in advance for the earlier time slots, if you really want to enjoy the exhibits around the castle.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city. Most of the interior has been stripped. The Crown jewels were absolutely nothing compared to The Tower of London exhibition. Very unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies all cobbles and slopes. Difficult with a stick. All in all a bit of a tourist trap all around the area.

We saw Edinburgh Castle on our last trip but there is always something new to see. Look for the room with the tapestries hanging from the wall - they took 13.5 years to complete. Missed that last time. There is a lot to see.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at this hostel. The location is absolutely perfect, right opposite Edinburgh Castle! The property features a very modern and stylish decor. Our capsule room was spacious, and we especially loved the excellent lighting design inside. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and even helped us carry our luggage up to the 3rd floor, which we highly appreciated since there is no elevator—the only minor downside to an otherwise perfect stay. Highly recommended!

Amazing location, 15 minutes from Edinburgh Castle, 30 from Arthur's seat, a lot of different pubs nearby. We did not use any means of transportation for our 3 days stay. The price was competitive compared to other 2 bedroom(ish) apartments. Apartment was relatively clean. Bathroom was so-so.

The apartment was cosy but big enough for 5. We had a very comfortable stay and the location is superb: Cafes, restaurants and a supermarket around the corner (with halal options too). Plus, it is only a few minutes walk from Grassmarket, with its great views of Edinburgh Castle, museums and other landmarks.

When you hear the name "Motel", you expect a cheap and nasty hotel, but this has been a pleasant surprise with a beautiful foyer and reception area, and the rooms were clean and pleasant, with interior design that was stylish and modern. The location was perfect; we walked almost everywhere we wanted to be. It is close enough to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle to walk, but far away enough to be quiet and peaceful.

Very comfortable and well-appointed apartment right in the centre of things. Comfy beds, clean space, well-equipped kitchen and living room. We were in Edinburgh to attend a gig at Edinburgh Castle and that was a (uphill -- such is Edinburgh) short walk away. The neighbourhood was excellent, there was a great breakfast place just opposite the apartment called Hula, which we would recommend (they also kindly allowed us to hang out there with our luggage after we had checked out).
