If you visit Athens and do not go this place and see the changing of the Guards, you are missing out. A very special place to visit and see for yourself. Take pictures and a short film of the guard changing. The people there are so friendly.
Be very careful in the tube. We were pickpocketed right on arrival to Athens from the airport. Our accommodation was in Syntagma and so we thought it would be easy to take the tube. A group of several people including an elderly man, a man of thirties with a little girl suddenly pushed us when we are leaving the tube. And instantly my husband found that his wallet was lost. We got back to the tube and asked them for our wallet and they just made a face and leisurely told us to inform the police. No one in the tube helps. When we went to the tourist reporting office the people there even yelled at one of the tourists when he insisted them to make a thorough search on the thief. There was no service at all and I felt that with the government s ignorance and tourist being an easy prey, makes Athens the heaven of pickpocketing. I dont feel safe there. We went there to run the Marathon but turns out being victim of crime. It s a shame.
Nothing spectacular but opposite is the rather drab and uninspiring parliament. The only real draw here is the Unknown soldier monument but be warned the Evzones only wear the gear you might be expecting on Sundays and national holidays. It is nevertheless a performance to behold and, if you'll pardon my french, as camp as Christmas
Best tip - if you want to see the changing of the guard on a Sunday, meet the Tsoliades as they leave the barracks and head towards the Parliament Building. You can stand along Leof. Vallissis Sofia road and see the parade , which is spectacular. Brilliant if you have kids because they can see everything , hear the music, see the marching.
So interesting to see the changing of the guard. Please don’t be one of the idiots who take photos with silly faces and disrespectful gestures right in the young guards’ faces. Instead read up on the meaning of the uniform they wear and the way the changing of the guards works as well as the selection process for the task.
The changing of the guards outside the parliament building is worth a watch. A beautiful dance like historical event which is free and happens about every 20 min. My son and I equally enjoyed watching the spectacle.
Is a lovely apartment and neighborhood. Nicely furnished for a rental. Very colorful decor. Bath and a half. Water temperature set very high! Beware! Sadly, never met the host. A Few nice restaurants nearby. One that sits at a point is lovely. Convenient grocery and a coffee shop with nice pastries near by.. Metro not far. Taxis in Athens quite trying. Did walk to Syntagma Square once but was hot and exhausting. Airport driver is a kind and knowledgeable man. Glad he was the first person we met in Athens. Do take advantage of that service
Great location in Athens, less than 5 minutes walk to the metro (Syntagma Square) although the area around the hotel can be quiet noisy at night. Windows/rooms could do with better soundproofing to keep noise out. Other than that the hotel was fine, good value for money. Very generous breakfast offered and well organised i.e. to limit the numbers in the breakfast room, you had to book your time the evening before in reception and breakfast was served to your table.
The apartment was in a very convenient location. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to be and it was a straight shot down from Syntagma Square metro station so it was easy to walk to once we got off the metro from the airport. The apartment was also in a secure location. Amenities were as described and it was nice to have a balcony to sit outside. The host was easy to contact when checking in and he gave us a guide of things to check out and see while in Athens.
I stayed at the Electra Athens near Syntagma Square and it was the perfect location for walking to shopping, the Plaka, and even the Acropolis and avoiding having to deal with the Athens traffic. It was also very safe, even to walk alone at night. The staff was extremely helpful, the amenities were great and all Covid precautions were taken. It's not a particularly fancy hotel but you can't beat it for location and value.
The hotel is located close to the Syntagma square, from which depart both buses and metro in different directions, including a direct bus and a direct train to the airport. It’s also very close to many key attractions of Athens, lots of restaurants, bars, shops etc. The hotel staff is friendly, they offered me an upgrade as I’ve already stayed there earlier. Wifi works well. Breakfast is good.
With properties, and travel, location is important, and this is the best location you can think of in Athens. Between Syntagma Square and Monastiraki Square, next door to the Ermou Pedestrian Shopping way, from here you can walk almost the entire city. The apartment is small, but very very clean. It gets hot in the room, so there is air conditioning, as well as a very small kitchen.
* Location of the hotel is very good, in one of the fanciest neighborhoods of the city (although it's not the easiest walk to go from anywhere else in central Athens, including the train station, Syntagma square, etc, we enjoyed the neighborhood and the places around it). * The view from the top bar/restaurant and pool are amazing. * The concierge was always very attentive.
Given the price, Athens Lights is a great urban hotel. It's located a little outside the central area but it has its own busy cafes and places to walk around nearby, just less central to the main tourist centre, like Syntagma Square. The staff were also very friendly and helpful; they provided a hefty breakfast with lots of different things, so that was appreciated.
It would be very hard to find a better location. The apartment is right in the middle of the triangle formed by the Acropolis, Syntagma Square and Monastiraki Square. It is right on Adrianou street and only one block from Ermou street. This is right where you want to be when visiting Athens.
breakfast is ok, but I was expecting better specially we are in Athens location is ok there are several options (restaurants, stores and bars ) around the hotel, but its is far away from city centre (Acropolis in Syntagma Square)
