So much to take in, and quite a bit to be honest that has been taken from other countries! You have to go to the Sistene Chapel of course, but its not that great. Other ceilings in Rome are just as impressive.
It’s free every last Sunday (9:00-14:00) of the month, but not included the Sistine Chapel. You can visit it first and then go to the St. Peter’s Basilica. it’s free as well, you only need to pay for the dome and it’s worth to do so. You can see the whole Vatican City there. However, if you gonna paid for the museum, you better change the schedule to the St. Peter’s Basilica and the dome first. It will be very crowded after 10:30am.
The Vatican Museums 10 years ago were doable. Today - you are one of many sardines trying to see the same item. If you want to see them get yourself a private guide (make arrangements before you arrive in Rome) and let him set the agenda as to what to see in the Museums and at what time of day.
Even with skip the line tour booked there was still delays getting into museum. It was over crowded, too many tours with audio equipment too close together to actually hear what was being said. The corridors became very samy, and repetitive. Unless you enjoy being pushed and shoved and stepped on for hours in stuffy conditions I would avoid this.
I took a tour that gets you into the Museum before opening, but then so did thousands of others so it's really not worth it. Best if you can somehow time your visit to not overlap with the most popular group tour times. The group tour leaders all carry flags or other pointers which will intrude into all your pictures!
try to visit early or late - and off-season if, possible. They let too many visitors into the Sistine Chapel, and the guards don't/can't maintain the policies (quiet and no flash photography) - it is not pleasant in the summer
This is a nice basic, but full-featured appartment in a busy area north of the Vatican. The owners were very nice and cared well for us. When there was a problem with the bed they immediatly took care of it. Location is in easy walking distance of the Vatican and especially the Vatican Museums. There are some cafés, shops and restaurants nearby. We liked La Fornace right next door very much. Metro station is also very near. The owners can also give you advice for some restaurants, etc. A good place to stay in Rome.
Unmatched view from the room (see photo), perfect location, perfectly clean, very helpful staff. In the time of Covid this was a perfect location for a stay in Rome, easily reached the sights we wanted to see by foot (Colosseum, Forum, Vatican museums, Pantheon, etc.) (pre-Covid, the area might have been too crowded with too many tourists). Many excellent places to eat nearby.
The location is perfect - a minute from a subway station and a five-minute walk to the Vatican museums, also a 24-hour grocery store nearby. Everything is very stylish and clean, the vinyl collection is spectacular. A little bit hot inside during the day, but the A/C in bedroom saves the day. Totally will come back, an awesome location for a week in Rome.
Great location just a few minutes walk to the Vatican museums. Possible self check-in which is very practical. Silvia is a very nice and helpful host. Breakfast served directly to your room according to your order that you always make a day prior. I was personally excited about unlocking the building door through wi-fi and a link that is sent to you.
For visiting Vatican city, the Vatican museums, the Basilica and St Peters square, the location of the hotel is perfect!! The staff was very friendly. The room wasn't spacious but it was functionally furnished. The airconditioning worked well! There are several nice restaurants within a short walking distance from the hotel.
Great location in between the entrance of the Vatican Museums and Ottaviano metro station. Upscale residential area, so it is relatively quiet and very peaceful, and yet there is plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops. The apartment was very spacious and clean, WiFi worked well.
Nice and quiet hotel, close to the main Vatican Museums entrance, in a very quite area, away from the crowded city-center. Very nice personnel. Parking in the hotel backyard. A little old but well maintained rooms, clean and roomy. Decent breakfast and good coffee.
The staff was really kind and helpful all the time during our stay there. The room itself is very clean and comfortable. The location of the apartment is excellent - about 3 minutes on foot to the nearest underground station (really close to the Vatican Museums).
Hosts were really nice, everything was clean and nice. Breakfast was generous. The place is located just around the corner to the entrance of Vatican museums (1 min by walk).
Close to Vatican museums and city centre, 200 meters from the underground Otaviano. Well equipped apartment, fast problem solving by the host
I didn't know the Sistine Chapel didn't allow photography. Frankly, the Hall of Maps at the Musei Vaticani was the most impressive aspect. The entire collection was amazing.
pre-book a tour around the Vatican museums (Sistine Chapel) and St.Peter's as it is well worth the extra money and avoids the massive queues.
If you like museums, pictures and sculptures. When visiting the Capitol and Vatican museums you'll need to give each place twice the time recommended in the guidebooks. There is so much to see every were.
The Art in the Vatican Museums is just stunning and so much of it. It is well worth the entrance fee but pre book tickets or you will queue for hours.
Definitely pre-book tickets we avoided hours of queueing at the Vatican museums and Colosseum.
You cannot avoid the crowd. The best suggestion to visit Vatican museums and St Peter's is to take a guided tour. To visit the Colosseum, book your tickets in advance over the internet and skip the line. Other attractions are easy to visit.
