Book skip the line or a tour of the museums, Sistine Chapel and Basillica as one tour, if you book sistene chapel and basillica as a tour you do not have to wait in the huge security line for the Basillica (although it is free if you choose the latter) .
So much to take in, and quite a bit to be honest that has been taken from other countries! You have to go to the Sistene Chapel of course, but its not that great. Other ceilings in Rome are just as impressive.
It’s free every last Sunday (9:00-14:00) of the month, but not included the Sistine Chapel. You can visit it first and then go to the St. Peter’s Basilica. it’s free as well, you only need to pay for the dome and it’s worth to do so. You can see the whole Vatican City there. However, if you gonna paid for the museum, you better change the schedule to the St. Peter’s Basilica and the dome first. It will be very crowded after 10:30am.
The Vatican Museums 10 years ago were doable. Today - you are one of many sardines trying to see the same item. If you want to see them get yourself a private guide (make arrangements before you arrive in Rome) and let him set the agenda as to what to see in the Museums and at what time of day.
Even with skip the line tour booked there was still delays getting into museum. It was over crowded, too many tours with audio equipment too close together to actually hear what was being said. The corridors became very samy, and repetitive. Unless you enjoy being pushed and shoved and stepped on for hours in stuffy conditions I would avoid this.
I took a tour that gets you into the Museum before opening, but then so did thousands of others so it's really not worth it. Best if you can somehow time your visit to not overlap with the most popular group tour times. The group tour leaders all carry flags or other pointers which will intrude into all your pictures!
Very cosy hotel. B&B rooms only few meters away from the hotel, so very easy to take our breakfast. Excellent central location, very close to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Cathedral. WiFi was fast, and air-conditioning was very efficient (and useful in Rome). The most scenic room for taking your breakfast, in front of St. Peter's Dome. Very friendly and helpful service. Clean rooms.
The location of this B&B is very convenient. 2 min to the metro station, and many restaurants and breakfast places around. Entrance to the Vatican Museums 10-15 min walk, same for St. Peter's Square. The owner is friendly and willing to give directions to visitors. The room is clean and refreshed daily. In conclusion: a place that is worth recommending.
A very comfortable property in an excellent location, within walking distance of St Peter's, the Vatican Museums, the River Tiber, and Castel St Angelo. Rome is not a big city so reaching other areas on foot is easy (although we did take a taxi to the Colosseum!) The apartment is well furnished and equipped.
The location was very convenient, close to the subway and to the Vatican museums. The room was small and cozy.
I didn't know the Sistine Chapel didn't allow photography. Frankly, the Hall of Maps at the Musei Vaticani was the most impressive aspect. The entire collection was amazing.
pre-book a tour around the Vatican museums (Sistine Chapel) and St.Peter's as it is well worth the extra money and avoids the massive queues.
If you like museums, pictures and sculptures. When visiting the Capitol and Vatican museums you'll need to give each place twice the time recommended in the guidebooks. There is so much to see every were.
The Art in the Vatican Museums is just stunning and so much of it. It is well worth the entrance fee but pre book tickets or you will queue for hours.
Definitely pre-book tickets we avoided hours of queueing at the Vatican museums and Colosseum.
You cannot avoid the crowd. The best suggestion to visit Vatican museums and St Peter's is to take a guided tour. To visit the Colosseum, book your tickets in advance over the internet and skip the line. Other attractions are easy to visit.
