Boasting a garden and a terrace, Hotel Las Monjas is located in Mérida, 1640 feet from Main Square and 1969 feet from Merida Cathedral. Brand new contemporary colonial stylish hotel. Simple but elegant
Well worthwhile an afternoon spent around the square. All buildings are free to enter, and everything has a/c. Beautiful artwork, beautiful architecture inside. We managed to catch a visiting Picasso exhibition for free, and found some really adorable sculptures down a sidestreet. And if you tire of wandering around, there are always cafes or icecream shops around the square where you can sit and watch the world go by.
Main square is little too busy but very cultural. There are free traditional short shows happening every night, very curious to see. Better to eat in one of the real traditional cafes in the market just little down the street. Cheap and tasty.
Centro is where it is all happening. If lost head bavk here! Great people watching, shops restaurants, it is where you can catch double deck tour buses, taxis, horse drawn carriages, and the 9:30 am free walking tour.
I enjoyed the people watching, the live music, food stands, shops and restaurants surrounding the square. No intrusive trinket hawkers and almost no rude men approaching a solo female traveler. It was pleasant to buy a snack or two and while away an hour or more in a shady bench spot. I also enjoyed a long conversation with a fellow female traveler on one of the benches. She was transporting wholesale huipiles and other garments from her village near Valladolid. It was eye opening to hear her tell me she sleeps on cardboard near municipal buildings when she travels to cities to deliver her wholesale garments to her clients who turnaround and sell to tourists after a 400% markup. While she and I recognized the vast differences in our economic situations, we ultimately found that we had some things in common. We made a loose plan for me to seek Nayeli out at her vendor stand outside of the Valladolid mercado if I were to ever return to that lovely town.
A great place to go in the evening - we took the free walking tour in English and spanish which leaves from here at 9:30 am. Although the guide spoke English he spoke so fast it was often hard to keep up with him.
Loved the main square for people watching and catching some of the free weekend entertainment. Loved the safety of the square as well - full of people during the weekend and then a bit quieter during the week, but just as interesting.
We felt completely at home because of the owner and the rest of the staff. We got a very warm welcome, got many recommendations during our stay, and they even helped us to book a diner table for NYE! The breakfast is excellent, consisting of fresh fruit, local juice and Mexican specialties. The location is on a quiet square, in walking distance (5-10 min) from the main squares and with enough free parking spots right in front of the hotel. Finally, the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable.
This hostel is perfectly located directly on Merida's main square, the Zocalo, in an elegant mansion. The best here is friendly staff, excellent mattresses and bedding. Plus super breakfasts! If you like to read in bed, bring a head lamp. Internet is good. This place reminds me of Suk 11 in Bangkok--it's a super place in the world.
Delicious breakfast with 4 options to choose from, fresh juice every day (different one per day), room was great and although w view to the street, not very loud. A/C did miracles to be able to sleep. Hotel at a walking distance from main square, really loved this hotel with its big rooms and quiet patio.
Excellent hosts, family run. Big rooms, nice kitchen. Great chill area with pool, hammocks, lounge chairs and communal table. Social hostel so good for the solo traveller. If driving, have parking available right across the street (small fee). Walking distance to main square, restaurants, laundry, etc.
Hotel with beautiful hostoric courtyards and nice landscaping. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is located 2 minutes walking from the main square, which made it easy to explore the city, its sights and restaurants. If we come back to Merida, we would love to stay there again.
Room was very good size and clean. AC was good. Very private, but good location close to the main square. Lots of places to eat nearby. Parking is around the corner from the hotel, but secure. Would stay there again.
The hotel. Is right in the heart of Merida a block from Plaza Grande (the main square). Close to many restaurants. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Had two small problems which they attended to right away.
This historical hotel was beautiful. The room was spacious with good AC and Wifi, very quiet. The location was perfect, just 2 minuts from the main square with a lot of vendors and restaurants everywhere.
The hotel is in a great location in Merida's Centro historico and walking distance from the main square and multiple restaurants in the city. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The hotel has free parking area. It located 5 min far from main square.
