I only had pre-booked a ticket for the Portraits of the Golden Age exhibition, which I enjoyed. But I later learned that some of the other exhibits had some remarkable pieces that I missed out on. It may be best to book the complete package rather than paying for each of the separate exhibitions in the museum.
What of the great collections in the world. Anniversary exhibition of Rembrandt made it extra special. Make sure to get a Holland Pass ahead of time (online) for easier and cheaper access. Same for Van Gogh Museum next door.
Disappointing if you expect loans from the real Hermitage. All that was on offer last week was an exhibition on the Romanoffs and one on Dutch group portraits loaned from Amsterdam museums. Interesting, but hardly great.
Museum features shows for the extremely large art collection of the Hermitage Museum. It boasts one of my favorite indoor cafes in Amsterdam that can be accessed without paying to go into the museum itself. The location on the banks of the Amstel is lovely and stands immediately across the narrow river from the ring of canals that boasts the best of the cities classical architecture.
Interesting. Exhibitions are rotated from the world-famous Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, so what is there is pot luck at the time. Amsterdam's Hermitage is large, but space is not as fully used as it could be.
Beautiful building, nice layout. A surprisingly good museum considering it is an adjunct of a museum in another country. Had an excellent special exhibitions of „Portrait Gallery of the Golden Age” & „Catherine the Great” when I visited. Both were fascinating. Highly recommended
