The hotel is extremely comfortable, clean, and beautifully designed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are very kind and thoughtful. They even left a lovely note for us, which was such a sweet touch. At check-in, we were given a postcard as a souvenir, which made the experience even more special. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room had a mini kitchen and a coffee machine — amenities you don’t usually find in most hotels. It is honestly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.

What a wonderfull place to sleep, it took us back in time 40/50 years ago. Location was in the old harbour of Leath, reminding me of the old harbours of the Dutch VOC. The staff was very friendly and the rooms spacious and comfortable.

This is a well-designed and decorated hotel. The room is large and the layout is very reasonable. The room is comfortable and clean. The breakfast is delicious. There are many kinds of food and fresh. The front desk service, room service and restaurant service are all very good. The location of the hotel is very good. It is only a five-minute walk to the castle, museum and gallery. St. Gill's Church and the downtown square are nearby, and it is only a 15-minute walk from the railway station. Perfect experience! Highly recommended!

Absolutely loved my stay. Room was extra cozy and comfortable, with a smart TV and modern bathroom. While there’s a pub downstairs that can get quite busy, there was absolutely no noise in the room. Continental breakfast is simple but has all the necessities (cereals, coffee/tea, fruits, yogurts, toasts, pastries, juices...). The food is also fantastic! Highly recommend the steak pie. The staff is also very nice and engaging, even brought an infusion to my room when I asked them if they had any! Location is also great, minutes away from the center, and easily walkable while being on a quiet street. The only con would be that there are three flights of stairs so not accessible, but it wasn't a problem for me.

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

The Burrell Collection had lovely museum and art pieces that were marred by having descriptions that were aimed at school groups (which I suppose they get a lot of) and also being historically revisionist in favour of centering queer ideology. Its restaurant and the surrounding parkland were great. Parking and even driving in the city was a nightmare.

We dropped into Inverness late in the day and on a Saturday having driven through beautiful clean and wonderful scenery on the way to and from beautiful Inverewe Gardens. Where we dropped into Inverness was dirty with poor paving and little of any interest. Perhaps we were spoilt and dropped into a bad area but we will never know.

The town has a range of services: hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes, even if you are vegan (at least two vegan cafes). Parking at Morrisons is competitively priced and it’s easy to park for 24 hours here, right next to the station and close to the jetty for lovely trips on the loch. The railway station allows great access to Rannoch moor, the West Highland Way, Glenfinnan and Mallaig. There’s a lovely international buzz about the town: it’s friendly and enjoyable.

Lots of variety in restaurants. We ate at Coasters, Wetherspoons (with a fascinating view of the harbour) and a couple of pubs, as well as aboard the Waverley paddle steamer. Oban is the gateway to the islands through CalMac ferries and links to the Highlands via bus and train. It's a compact town with a good assortment of shops. The people are friendly and helpful.

All the bus services were excellent, we travelled to Stonehaven and Gourdon for family visits and used the Ember buses. Excellent service and bus ride. A must is the Maritime museum in Aberdeen, free admission. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of different information and activities on 5 floors about fishing, harbour life and oil rigs. There is a lift, but a few steps between each floor. Recommendation - start on floor 5. Lots of different shopping areas, good retail shops and restaurants.

There was so much to see and do ! I wish I had booked more time here. 2 days is not enough. I met a lot of amazing people because when you stay at a YHA - that is what happens. I stayed here because it is such good value but also because I like to eat my own food if it suits me, as well as try the local food places . YHA's give you the choice. I recommend the art gallery and the wooded walks. The Kings Knot is energetically very special and worth sitting on if you like to meditate and connect to the cosmos. Its the crown chakra of Gaia. I felt safe. The staff were kind and let me leave my back pack after I should have checked out. This allowed me to walk about without that weight. My stuff was safe. Thank you YHA Stirling.
