Absolutely love the decor and standard of furniture, fixtures and fitting of this beautifully refurbished Georgian house. Extremely well decorated and furnished, spacious, with a large bar area, large restaurant with linen tablecloths, and a separate dining area for four-legged friends. Good to know that pets are welcome and are catered for, but those without pets can dine in a separate area. Bedroom (No. 7) was beautifully furnished, spacious with very comfy super king size bed and lovely walk-in shower room with a hot powerful shower. We didn't dine in the restaurant in the evening but we both had a scrumptious breakfast in the morning. Most importantly, the staff were very friendly, efficient and attentive. Finally, the price for B&B for two was very reasonable. What's not to like ??? Highly recommended !!!

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh’s location is just fantastic. The Royal Mile is just a 1-minute walk away. Other sights such as St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, The Scotch Whiskey Experience, and more, are also located a few minutes away. There are a lot of restaurants, pubs and cafes nearby. The staff were all lovely and so welcoming. Our room was spotless. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, and the sheets were crisp white. The mini bar was very well stocked. I highly recommend a stay in Virgin Hotels Edinburgh. We absolutely loved it here and will definitely be guests of the hotel once again whenever we return to Edinburgh.

The staff are so sweet, helpful and very welcoming from the moment you arrive (especially the cute girl when we checked in, who reminded me of Dakota J!) and best of all, the all-round feel is ultimately casual! The rooms are awesome - actually, a spacious fully furnished apartment with a supercomfy bed upstairs and all the perks and necessities : 2 TV's, a record player, a wicked sound box, a guitar (!) safety deposit box, full-sized refrigerator, hob, oven and a magnificent minibar plus the famous beer fridge in the bathroom! Everywhere is kept fantastically clean including the bar and dining area. Breakfast options are wonderful and graciously filling - at times we would have actually preferred lighter options but hey, we were in holiday mode! We dined a couple of times as well, having enjoyed great burgers and chicken wings, both which we highly recommend. Ah yes... and the beer... extensive selection, spoilt for choice... infact, I write this review whilst enjoying a Punk IPA which I just bought from our local supermarket 😁

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

This is the perfect location for a romantic weekend getaway! Location is beautiful, the lodges are so cute and right on the water, each with private hot tubs! Edinburgh's a beautiful historic city.

Edinburgh's a beautiful historic city. It's so easy to get around by train, tram or bus. My daughter and I visited Edinburgh Castle, Greyfriars Cemetery and other sites connected to Harry Potter (we didn't do the guided HP tour). Our favourite place was Camera Obscura, a fantastic interactive museum - it's a bit pricey for larger families, but well worth the visit.

We didn't venture into the main city centre, choosing instead to focus around our hotel. We went to see Raye on Friday night in The Hydro. Such a fantastic gig, great venue. The Moxy SEC was perfect for us. On Saturday we went out for brunch (cheeky itison deal) on Argyll Road then wandered back to the hotel. We chilled there for a while then went to Golf Fang, only a 10 min walk from the hotel, absolutely brilliant place, we played interactive darts and had a few drinks. We then, on the recommendation from staff at golf fang went to watch rugby at Oran Mor on The Byres Road. We enjoyed walking back to the hotel visiting a few pubs on the way. Always someone to talk to. Glasgow's got a great vibe, relaxed and friendly, welcoming place you love to come back to.

Small city you can walk it and see the sights easily in a day. Beautiful walks around the local hillsides with lovely views. Loch Ness easily accessible by local bus services only 30mins away. Lots of places to eat and there is a local aldi we used to buy groceries for the apartment. The inverness museum is free and worth a visit to learn all about the history of the highlands. Really interesting. We ate at the local whetherspoons pub in the city centre, great food and cheap, nice haggis too!

Dundee isn't exactly on the "tourist trail", but it has quite a bit to offer a visitor. It is a small city and has its own distinctive character and local accent! There are good museums and galleries there, particularly the Dundee V&A, and loads of pubs, bars, and restaurants. There are enjoyable walks along the Tay in either direction and good views across the river to Fife. The centre is compact and easily walkable with plenty of shops. There are some interesting shops, pubs (a couple of excellent ones), and eating places on the Perth Road and - in the other direction to the east - in Broughty Ferry. This is just a short bus or train ride away and is well worth a visit. There are excellent public-transport options for daytrips from Dundee or for moving on after your stay and there is lots of very nice countryside and coastal scenery around the city.

Aviemore as a town is a really nice place to visit, winter sports probably get the publicity and main season but even in other seasons so many stunning easy and challenging walks. Just an incredible place in the Cairngorm National Park and so much within a short drive. Hopefully the investment in shops, cafes and other facilities continue as I’d happily spend a lot more time here across all 4 seasons. Not a place sto spend more than a couple of days unless planning a serious walking / winter sport trip.

The distillery and hot chocolate café are worth a visit as is a walk up the hill or along the shore to the castle.
