Lovely small and old town which is the birthplace of st Dominic and the gastronomic heart of Umbria (think wild mushrooms, all sorts of pulses, summer and winter truffles, and every possible pork/boar product). Sadly many ancient buildings destroyed by 2016 earthquake but don't be put off - nobody died and little damage to more recent buildings. Visitors VERY welcome as economy needs help. Great excursions to the surrounding hills, breathtaking plain of Castelluccio, rafting. Local restaurants esp "al Teatro" recommended and good value.
Perugia was a good place to do day trips from to other villages in Umbria, many good restaurants, good chocolate made there. LaTaVerna is a good restaurant two other restaurant the hotel recommended were good and reasonably priced.Very clean place.
Spello is a great base for visiting the lovely walled medieval towns of umbria. Great food, art, architecture and friendly welcoming residents.
Great home base for touring Umbria. Tip: drive up to the old town if you plan to have dinner there. Restaurants do not begin serving until 7:30. The funicular quits at 8:00; couldn’t get a taxi or bus at 9:30 p. On a Saturday night! We had to walk down an old, long, dark service road at 10:00 p.m. to reach our car in the free train station car park!
Stunning city with fantastic history. We were visiting to attend the 25th anniversary of the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival Most restaurants provide options for those who are gluten intolerant. Two favorite restaurants - Il Malandrino Bistrot and Antica Cantina di Orvieto. Buy the card which provides access to all of the historic sites. Well worth the 20€. Wear comfortable walking shoes!!
Perugia is a great place to base out of for travel in Umbria and Tuscany. You could spend a day or two checking out the town too and have plenty to do.
We bought an apartment in Fabro, in the historic district, across from the castle. The town is small, no restaurant but two snack bars, post office, and large grocery store. Fabro is a hilltop Umbrian, working class, "real" Italian village, not a tourist spot. It's claim to fame is an intact 12th century castle, which has been converted to apartments. Don't expect English speaking people. Learn some Italian if you want to stay awhile and communicate with anyone. There is a B&B in the castle. Fabro has great views from almost anywhere in town. At the bottom of the hill about 10 minutes from Fabro, is Fabro Scalo. A much larger town with all the amenities for shopping and dining. Fabro Scalo has a train station on the main route between Rome and Florence. Likewise, it is on the A1, the main North-South highway in Italy.
Gubbio is a beautiful ancient hill town. It is worth a visit and is generally easy to get to if in Umbria. There are numerous good restaurants and cafes. Walking the town and the hillside provides many fabulous views of the valley and special discoveries inside the City itself.
Castiglione is small old town, with a big history, on/in a big lake, on the border of Umbria and Tuscany. Beautiful landscapes; excellent wines and food, and the most warm and welcoming "real" people.
Sant'enea is small town Italy with comforts. Grocery store, pharmacy,a pizzeria, and fuel on a ridgeline, central to travelling throughout all of Umbria and Eastern Tuscany. We did 10 day trips from this one location.

Had an amazing stay in this beautiful little apartment. Highly recommended to anyone wanting an authentic Umbrian experience. Stefano’s apartment is in a beautiful part of Assisi and easy access to the center, restaurants and cafes and beautiful places to walk. Stefano was really welcoming and the breakfast was outstanding and so authentically presented. There is a small kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, sink and things to make coffee. I recommend this spot for anyone traveling to Assisi as the location really couldn't be any better.

Beautiful location hidden away in the Umbrian hills! A tiny town perched up surrounding gorgeous views every way you look. Our friendly host was such a kind lady who takes care of anything you might need. She even wait outside for us when we arrive to make sure we didn't go the wrong way! Great wifi, clean apartment and comfortable. Very warm even on cold nights. The roads getting up here are steep and windy but worth every bit just to experience the quietness of small village and hike in the surrounding trails. Unforgettable.

The town of Spello is lovely and a good base for seeing other towns in Umbria. We loved being able to walk to restaurants for dinner. MOnica was a superb host- always available by text or phone if necessary. She stocked the refrigerator with everything we would need (and more) for breakfast, and cocktails. She had some extras in the apartment, too, such as Kleenex (usually not seen in Europe), a flashlight by the bed, bandaids. The terrace is beautiful and gives out good view of the area. Also, great wifi!

The hosts are the nicest people ever! They were very sweet, attentive and helpful. They paid attention to every detail in the apartment. You really felt like you were in a place that was loved and attended to. The property is beautiful, high on a hill overlooking Spello and the Umbrian valley. It is super quiet and relaxing and everything about the place makes you feel welcomed and comforted. It was a truly great stay, one of the best we have ever had!

We were lucky enough to stay in the newer building across the street. The room was rather spacious for Italy, with three beds to accomodate our family. Our host opened the large picture window which overlooked the Umbrian countryside!! Right outside our room was a lovely balcony with the same view. It felt as if it were our own private balcony. Assisi is stunning and the view from our room was outstanding. I recommend room 68!!

Our apartment was luxurious and spacious, with interesting architecture and antique furniture mixed with modern amenities. Parking is ample and easy, the restaurant has several different rooms each with its own atmosphere. The staff was very accommodating and we felt like we became family before we left. Beautiful scenic location and this was our home base as we took several day trips to other Umbrian towns.

Very clean and big rooms, wonderful garden with outdoor swimming pool. The hotel itself is a enormous place, different salons and cosy places are to be found. The location to visit the region of Umbria is perfect. Two restaurants are at you disposal, The Melograne, the gourmet one that could not really convince us and the winebar Vecchia Fornace where we had two wonderful diners.

The room was very comfortable and clean. The property has a spectacular view and has beautiful grounds in addition to a pool with a great view of the Umbria valley. The hotel has a very good restaurant. The hotel is located by a bus stop that makes it very easy to get into Assisi. The price of our room was a pleasant surprise. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is an oasis in Umbria. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff was so friendly. This was our favorite room on the trip so far. The shower omg. Please know that Norcia has been devastated from a massive earthquake. But don’t let this stop you. The town people were wonderful. The flowers were blooming in nearby Castelluccio. (Which is completely destroyed ).

Our apartment was perfect for my two daughters and myself, so spacious and beautifully appointed. Views of Orvieto are amazing. Breakfast was abundant and delicious, such a nice way to start your day. Martin and Frederick are warm and accommodating, you will enjoy every moment! If you are traveling in Umbria or Tuscany this absolutely should be your base!

The hotel is right outside the ZTL zone and has a parking space inside so you can leave your car when you arrive and walk everywhere. The rooms are beyond beautiful and the views of Umbria's landscape from the hilly base of Assisi can't be beaten. I had a room in a corner with an outside patio that made ALL the difference.

It is a private apartment in fact, the owner (Annamaria) waited for us at the entrance with the keys. She was very friendly and also suggested us to visít the ongoing Umbria Jazz Festival which was an excellent idea. The apartment is beautiful and very convenient. Also has a nice panoráma as well.

An impeccable castle with nooks and crannies to explore, with great views from most rooms and maintained to a very high standard It is the best overall hotel package that we have found in 10 years of Umbria summers.

Antonio and his family were as kind as they come, and the pictures do not do the view justice — it’s beautiful. It’s a great base for exploring Umbria.

Beautiful place. Staff friendly and speak excellent English! Puts my Italian to shame! William who carries your luggage is delightful & nothing is too much trouble. Chiara in the treatment / spa area gave me excellent advice in English! on the resorts products which were all creatively displayed. This place is an oasis of tranquility in the middle of Umbria the green heart of Italia! See you next month! Good breakfast too which lasts forever! Grazie Joy Harris FRSA Panicale

The hotel is beautiful. It was once a monastery/convent. The location and landscape made us feel like we were in a mountain retreat. Yet, we were only a few minutes walk from the center of Gubbio. I loved the bar lounge. Our room was nice and the bathroom was large with a great shower.
