- From $373.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 666 reviewsGreat staffs, very attentive and helpful, their English is pretty good, too. We stayed in the Annex Wing, which is the renovated one. The building looks old but the room is very well-equipped with modern facilities. The room is also very clean and spacious. The window offered us a peaceful view over the front yard of the hotel with mountains in the back and autumn foliage. Our booking includes breakfast and dinner. Both are delicious with fresh ingredients. The menu is a bit limited though, in terms of variety of food, and we need to pay extra for some dishes. Still, we were happy with the size of the portions and quality of food. Last but not least, PERFECT location: just next to Shinkyo Bridge and a few steps away from the main Shrines. We could visit all of the main attractions on foot. There are also bus stops in front of the hotel, from which we can go to Chuzenji Lake as well as Nikko station. Overall, we enjoyed our stay a lot and felt very welcomed at Nikko Kanaya Hotel.Guest review byThu TrangVietnam
- From $223.45 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,587 reviewsWe drove from Tokyo to Takaragawa. Easy drive and was pleased that it was not snowing hard as we only have snow tires. You will need chains if the snow is very heavy. Location was breath taking and the beauty of the Onsen was amazing, perched along the river. Check in was smooth and there was a English speaking staff to check us in. Dinner and breakfast was amazing and was please that they asked for food restrictions when making a booking as my daughter does not eat seafood and they provide her options. It was a Ryokan style accommodations. Would have preferred an extra pillow. I guess we could have asked for one. But over all experience just amazing. It is a beautiful Onsen surrounded by nature. We were there when snow was falling so it made the experience even more magical.Guest review bySharonaSingapore
- From $284.15 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 212 reviewsA solid and unexpectedly wonderful Ryokan hotel. The staff were completely on point and everything looks immaculately clean, modern, and well-kept. I was really blown away by the size of the room, probably the biggest I’ve seen in all of Japan! The Obachan who makes the onigiri is an absolute delight. The way she interacted with the young children was just so sweet and heartfelt! Ingredients listings on all the foods was also super helpful to avoid activating my shellfish allergy. Also - buffet carts?! Genius!Guest review byDaneUnited States
- From $173.48 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 186 reviewsPeaceful Location, close enough to the ski park we wanted to visit. We could have stayed our whole trip at the hotel with food options, pool and onsen. The staff was accommodating to us not speaking Japanese and very friendly. The room catered to family with kids slippers, robes and toothbrushes. We enjoyed exploring all the local scenery, waterfalls and beautiful town of Karuizawa. We would love to return again.Guest review byArielJapan

Touristy, somewhat charmless town that is nevertheless worth it for the magnificent shrines (Shinto, and the resting places of the first and third shoguns) and temples (Buddhist) and the museum (splurge on the museum! Seriously). Many people go to see these buildings + the red bridge (which is merely fine - short and not really noteworthy), but don't venture to the outskirts of Nikko to take in the other sites (Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Botanical Garden, Tamozawa Imperial Villa and much more impressive Nikko Dainichi Bridge).Guest review byChristopherUnited States - 10.0

We liked the room it was quite spacious. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was an easy bus ride from the main station and there were many restaurants nearby. The breakfast offered a lot options both Japanese and Western. The staff were very helpful finding some bus information and lending us umbrellas and adaptors.Guest review bySusanAustralia - 6.0

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.Guest review byJurrienThailand - 10.0
Take note of the carpark if driving.
Take note of the carpark if driving. The carpark is a multi storey block behind the hotel. Only available from level 3 onwards. We parked at level 4 and fprtunately there was a lift that brought us to level 3, which is the street level leading to hotel. Hand over the parking slip to hotel upon check in, pay 500Y and they will exchange another slip for you.Guest review bySEOW FANG - 6.0
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners. Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm. There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.Guest review byDeltaBegaAustralia - 8.0

The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs.
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs. It has the Shiobara hot spring village, which has a rich spring quality and has been loved by royalty and literary masters. You can enjoy the traditional hot springs surrounded by nature in spite of the easy access from Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen, which is just an hour away from Tokyo. Each hot spring in the city is different in scale and taste, but it is an adult resort where you can spend your luxurious time by soaking in the hot spring to your heart’s content.Guest review byBestUnited Kingdom - 10.0

It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.Guest review byjonathanAustralia
