This was my first time staying at a ryokan and it exceeded all of my expectations. The place was clean, I lived having a tatami mat room and sleeping on a futon, my partner and I both slept extremely well. The food was absolutely amazing. We paid for half board, so breakfast and dinner were included and I would absolutely recommend this. The dinner was really special. After hiking all day it was really nice to be able to come back to such a great meal. This was also my first time using a traditional Japanese bath. We were there mid-week and I think they take on fewer guests mid-week because even though the place was listed as fully booked there were only a few other people staying there. The up-shot was that my partner and I both had private use of the shared bath. (There is a separate bath for men and for women). It was such a nice experience, very satisfying. The location is also a highlight. There is a mountain bus that you can take from Nagano Station that will drop you off 3min away from the doorstep and from there you are already in the heart of the mountain. You can rent an E-Bike from the tourist information center or hike around the mountain. Everyone working there was incredibly nice and hospitable, but their English was limited. The woman (I believe the owner) who checked us in had enough English to explain how everything worked and she had some information printed off for us in English. Also their Wi-Fi is good and Google translate was a big help. If we ever make it back to Japan, we will be staying here again. My only regret is that we waited to book too late and they were already mostly full so we were only able to stay for two nights.

What a lovely traditional style lodging. The tatami room was extremely warm and cozy, the staff was warm and welcoming, and the location was perfect, directly adjacent to the Zenkoji temple grounds.

This places really only big downfall is the location. Though I will say it would have been easier if we had a car. Other than that the onsens and baths were amazing, it was quite not a whole lot of people were there. It was off season so no breakfast or anything was offered but they did have other things to buy and eat. Onsens were nice and hot and they had a tea soak it was quite nice.

We loved being in nature - Nagano is so beautiful and this location was a very special place to rest relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The staff are so warm and friendly and the food was incredible - you will not go hungry at this hotel! We loved the care that the staff put into each meal and every detail of the space. We also loved the Onsen experience and found the facility to be very clean and easy to use. Our rooms were very clean and spacious, comfortable and enjoyable. We loved our visit and hope to return!

Great traditional ryokan that I can recommend to anyone! Nice staff, really good japanese style breakfast, beautiful rooms and so much more. I used the ryokan’s onsen every morning and night. Also great location as Zenkōji temple is located right next to the ryokan. 5/5 stars!

Huge, traditional room, with tatami mats, dinning space and private bathroom. Great onsen we had to ourselves. Traditional Japanese breakfast was big and very tasty. Hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, but for us it was a plus.

Authentic Japanese breakfast served at an agreed upon dining time. Onsens were authentic as were the futons on tatami mats. Great location to the main temple. Recommend this ryokan for a true taste of old Japan.

We loved our stay here. It was great for the family to experience a traditional Ryokan. The breakfast was very good if you want to have a traditional breakfast. It was a great location being right in the middle of Zenkoji Omotesando. Would definitely recommend.

A small but comfortable ryokan sitting on an ancient site on a beautiful pedestrian thoroughfare just fifty yards form the large Zenko-Ji Temple complex, easily accessible from the rail station by either bus or subway. Rooms compact but brilliantly designed - no shoes throughout with every necessary comfort and a really good traditional breakfast. Use the small but well-equipped onsen. Good eateries located nearby but do book.

It is a ryokan, Japanese style hotel, just in the street a few hundred meters away from the Zenko-ji (temple). The house is very old. The room looks beautyful, beds, (futons), Japanese chairs and table. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese. Lovely taste and made with care. There was an onsen, Japanes hot spring bath in the house. The staff was so friendly. They came up to our room to collect us for the meals. We have breakfast and dinner in a original Japanese (dining)room.

Great Ryokan experience (my first time), right in the historic temple walk. Even though several rooms were being remodelled, my room was in perfect condition and comfortable. Good onsen. I enjoyed trying on the yukata, but be aware even Japanese visitors don't always put it on! I was a little embarrassed at breakfast :D
