Perfect escape from the hustle of Tokyo. The private onsens are a great way to unwind in a tranquil setting and the traditional breakfast/dinner were a tasty and filling, insight into the local cuisine. Staff were also great and always on hand to help with a smile.

Room is extremely spacious, with a toilet, bathroom and wash basin at a separate corner. There's a big fridge and electric airpot. Lightings are adequate, and just enough power sockets to use. Wi-Fi connection is good. Its hot spring is big, with some outdoor ones facing the river, very relax to dip inside, enjoying the river view and listening to its water gushing sound. Meals are in the form of multi-course dishes, served at a common dining area. Very satisfied with all the dishes. All staff are generally courteous. It's actually not that far to walk to the central town area. The bus stop is located right outside of the ryokan, together with a convenience and liquor store which opens till 9pm. Check-out is until 11am which is great.

Our fourth stay here and we are still absolutely smitten with this place. Comfortable rooms, wonderful staff, delicious food, and the best baths in the prefecture, all wrapped up in a cozy, creaky, glowing inn nestled deep in the woods.

The room was very spacious. There was a private onsen that could be used by any guests which was amazing. The food was exceptional and the receptionist was very friendly and spoke amazing English
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Kaiseki breakfast and dinner were absolutely amazing and the service and eye for detail incredible. I loved my spacious room and comfortable futon. And the onsen were perfect. This could not have been better. Absolutely loved it
Great highrise riverside ryokan furnished with good taste of traditional interior. Much better than many ryokans of this type which use cheaper artificial materials. The private onsen was fabulous and met our expectation.
Staff were exceptional in the Ryokan, they looked after us from start to finish! We really enjoyed our time in the private onsen being able to relax surrounded by the sound of the river next to the baths and the dinner which followed was amazing!
Everything, the staff was very friendly, professional and helpful. Japanes breakfast and diner were awesome. The private onsen was great. First time stay in a Ryokan and I will definitely do it again next time in Japan, hopefully in Shima Onsen Kashiwaya Ryokan 🙏
Staying at the Kashiwaya Ryokan was an exceptional experience that we will remember fondly. The hospitality was outstanding, Hitomi took the best care of us and made us feel at ease. The food, the onsen and the room were perfect.
Beautiful ryokan, we love staying here. Getting here is relatively easy, instructions shared by the ryokan were very clear.
They have 3 outdoor private baths ( first come first serve). Sooo relaxing, clean, room was good size and comfortable. During your stay you need to dress with a Yukata provided by the ryokan.
We had a traditional vegetarian Dinner and breakfast which was also very nice. This is an amazing way to immerse in the culture. Highly recommended if you are visiting Japan.
This is a beautiful historic ryokan, staying there was a really special treat! The variety of food was absolutely delicious, the room was spacious, comfortable and with a beautiful atmosphere. There are several onsen, they are large, clean and very relaxing (I most enjoyed the outdoor one). Staff was very attentive, polite and helpful.
Such an amazing stay! The staff were so friendly and kind! The food experience was amazing and the private onsens were so special. Would highly recommend going for a couple nights to fully relax and enjoy the ryokan!
