We had a wonderful time! The hosts were the highlight of our stay, and their adorable dog made us feel right at home. They were incredibly friendly and available, treated us well, and gave us great tips about everything. They even made us coffee early in the morning when we had to leave early. Breakfast was always delicious, and the room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, it was a great experience, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

The hosts were fabulous and helped us with outing reservations, info on local busses, and airport transfer. We especially enjoyed fires in our fireplace in the evenings. Breakfasts were lovely and scrumptious. They turned on the TV for breakfast which first I was wishing they wouldn't, but instead of news or some other thing I didn't want intruding on my breakfast, there were beautiful vids with gentle music - themed to travel, etc, without adverts. It was lovely!

Smaller and less touristy with locals attentive to your need and willingness to help. Ephesus Archeological Park was the highlight of the visit. There is no dearth of choices for eating - from local Turkish dishes to Burger King. Selchuk is more convenient to stay as beginning from morning you can at your leisurely pace cover St John's Basilica, Artemis Temple, Ephesus Archeological Park and Virgin Mary's House all in one day.

we stayed in Sirince.
we stayed in Sirince. An antique village in the mountains outside of Selcuk. A 19th Century experience in small town Turkey. Bring good shoes for steep hills and uneven ground. Good natural foods from local farms. Expect an authentic experience.

I’m not sure why anyone from away would come to Selcuk unless they were there to see the antique ruins of Ephesus. That is certainly why we came. If you are in Turkey- I suggest it is a must see.
Ephesus is one of the most excavated sites in the world. It is humbling to see how much as a civilized culture we have forgotten- or forgot and have had to rediscover over the millenniums.
That said, Selcuk had decent dining options, and other attractions like the Ephesus Museum (where the artifacts are housed), and the Saint John Basilica which are fantastic. Both are blocks from the Akanthus hotel (which I reviewed separately and highly recommend .

Amazing place in order to visit not only Ephesus but other ancient greek cities nearby too. The city in itself has also many touristic spots in itself (like the lonely column that remains ot the ancient Artemision).

We visited Selcuk for one night to visit Ephesus and a friend staying locally. The town was lovely to walk through and easy to navigate. Ephesis was easy to get to, but the tour guide options were more challenging to navigate (beforehand).
There are a couple of beautiful restaurants, so do your research.
The taxis are a drag. Most have fixed fees but unclear what they include. One time we paid 100TL to go from Selcuk to the hotel, and the next taxi driver charged us 400TL to return. It was a 10-minute drive. Be aware that if you order a taxi to Ephesus, they may include the 'whole trip', whatever that means...
Ephesus is worth the visit if you're into ancient history or faith-based movements. You will want to get the audio guide, a guided tour or look up a DIY one online.
The Ephesus museum can be done in 45 - 1 hour if you are not a details person. Lots of well-curated objects but narrative and contextualising could do with some work. You might want to brush up on your periods before visiting.
This hotel is amazing! It has so much charm and character, the photos don’t do it justice, one of the few places you go and it’s better than online. Very comfortable, clean, and the staff were lovely and helpful. Also the breakfast was some of the best we’ve had here in Turkey. 5-10min walk from the main bus terminal and restaurants/shops were closer. Also next to the castle and the basilica.
(If you are a Harry Potter fan, it reminded me of The Burrow, and had a cozy English cottage feel to it)
The beds are actually so comfortable! So much better than others we encountered during our 2-week Turkey trip. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, offering an upgraded room and an earlier breakfast than normal as we were planning to check out early. Breakfast was a delicious spread of classic Turkish delicacies, served in a beautiful back garden. The location is within walking distance to historical sights and great restaurants and shopping, but on a relaxing street away from the noise.
The hotel is located on top of the mountain in Selcuk and has a scenic view. We were lucky and got an upgrade to the best room with a lovely balcony and jacuzzi. The view was amazing! The staff was very kind and helpful with tips around sightseeing and restaurants. You can reach Ephesus in 10 min by car and the small town of Sirince in approx 15 min. We also enjoyed a nice breakfast on the terasse next to the pool. Definitely recommend to stay here when visiting Ephesus and the area!
Nilya was a very comfy hotel with an amazing breakfast. It was a great value for our money. It was located to several tourist spots in Selcuk and close to dining so we were able to walk to all the points of interest and lunch/dinner within 15 mins.
The staff was attentive and the hotel had amazing art (owner owns a store that sells these arts which we unfortunately did not get to visit). The courtyard and view from upstairs were beautiful. Breakfast exceeded our expectation.
The location is very good. Easy access to the center of the city and to the istorical sites around Selcuk. Many places to visit, Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, Grotto of the Seven Sleepers, Temple of Artemis. There are good restaurants around. If you like pide, you must eat at the restaurant across the street. The hotel has elevator, which was important for us. Parking in front of the hotel. Breakfast could be better, because it's Turkey, but it was okay.
We are a family of 5 on a 9 night trip in Turkey. This was by far our favorite place to stay. The drive up the hill is a little tricky, but a quick call to the host and he will guide you easily. Just beware that they are narrow, bumpy stone streets. The view was incredible and it was so quiet.... except for the stray dogs barking at night! The breakfast was incredible with all freshly made items and a view that cannot be beat. Do not miss this gem!
The property is a restored heritage building in the old city center of Selcuk. It is absolutely beautiful and well thought of in every detail, from architecture to food and hospitality of staff to the interior details and landscape features of the courtyard and pool…everything we experienced was just perfect and allowed us to take a much needed rest and soak in some authentic luxury amid a series of tiering and long excursions in Selcuk.
Harry and his family were very friendly and helpful. They have created a warm and welcoming place to stay which is convenient for all the sights. The breakfast on the lovely rooftop terrace was excellent and the view fantastic, including views of the Artemis temple.
We were traveling on bikes which Harry allowed us to safely lock up in the courtyard.
We would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay in Selçuk.
This is probably one of the best boutique hotels we have ever stayed in. The breakfast was exceptional, the decor and comfort of the rooms was exceptional. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff really top notch. The location of the hotel in Selcuk was well suited as a base for exploring the surrounding sites. We would come back to Selcuk, and we would definitely choose to stay at Akanthas again.
this was probably the best place we visited during our 2 weeks long roadtrip through Turkey. The place is cosy, the house is built in a traditional style and rooms are very clean. The breakfast is various and also the host is very nice and helpful.
I highly recommend you to stay at this place.
Set in a lovely garden setting. with a swimming pool, looking up on the St Johns Bascilia, and very close to Ephesus. Very friendly staff with good advice. We stayed for 3 nights and were happy with our accomodation. Breakfast one of the best we've had in Turkey
Breakfast was amazing, a lot of different dishes, the best traditional turkish brekfast I've eaten in Turkey. Room was absolutely new, and very interesting shower in the bathromm with lot's of dirrefent moder to use. People were very friendly and helpful.
Booked at short notice on our first trip to Turkey. Great location at the centre of interesting town. Roof excellent for sunset views, afternoon sunbathing, drying washing! Family-run, very personal service, excellent breakfasts
The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to be helpful. The decor was quirky and the atmosphere so calming. The breakfast was gorgeous. Thank you Hotel Kalehan for making our stay in Selcuk so nice.
- The most beautiful hotel we stayed at during our road trip in Turkey
- Friendly and helpful stuff
- Free shuttle to Ephesus Ancient city
- Good breakfast
- Cozy front yard
Absolutely beautiful hotel! Convenient location in the middle of Selcuk, and only a few minutes drive to Ephesus. Highly recommend staying in this beautiful place!
Lovely property. Best Gozleme I tried in Turkey. Everybody was very helpful, even the personnel that did not speak english found a way to communicate with us.
