Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Like the rest of Tasmania, the most important aspect is the close proximity to so many contrasting attractions: compared to mainland states, it is a relatively short drive from the mountains to the sea, from the city to the country. The scenery is breath-taking!

Hobart is a city full of history and life.
Hobart is a city full of history and life. Unlike many cities it has kept it's small town feel while having the many of the amenities that you would find in a much larger city.
You don't even need to rent a car to spend time in the city as most places are within walking distance however if you do be careful the streets can be rather confusing.

Hobart is an incredible city for its size, jamb packed with incredible food, beautiful architecture, spectacular markets and harbour. It's a short drive to Huon Valley and the incredible apple orchards.
Mt Wellington is a spectacle and a great location for beautiful photos.
It's a city that should be on your list to visit.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.
Loved our stay at Crowne Plaza Hobart! It's in the perfect location, close to shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel is super clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedding is some of the most comfortable I've experienced in a hotel and now I need to know the pillow brand so I can buy some! We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that the breakfast that was included in our rate was a full buffet breakfast with barista coffee rather than just continental breakfast as advertised. Would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful hotel, very original in conception. Wonderful location, just on the old Macquarie wharf at Hobart's tourist port. Excellent organization and careful management by the hotel's team. Closely linked to the history of the city of Hobart, whose colourful characters are finely sketched on the doors of the rooms. Excellent food at the "Old Wharf Restaurant" and very fine selection of Tasmanian gins, whiskies and vodkas at the "Evolve Spirits" bar.
Congratulations.
My studio apartment was very well appointed - the kitchenette had everything I needed to prepare meals and the washing machine and dryer in the room were super convenient for a week-long stay. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Location is also convenient - a short walk to the waterfront and into the CBD, with the added convenience of an airport bus stop at the front door. Also plenty of cafes and restaurants, etc in easy walking distance.
Location was exceptional: right next to the waterfront and just a short walk (5 minutes) to Salamanca and Hobart CBD. Plenty of dining and coffee options are nearby.
Room was spacious and very comfortable, more like a small mezzanine apartment with separate kitchen area.
Artwork throughout the hotel provided a great vibe and lent a unique character to the hotel.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Phenomenal experience - rare to find service that has the ‘wow factor’ these days. Everything you would expect for a luxury hotel and more. To our delight, a highly recommended restaurant and bar were located right here in the hotel. The French bakery opposite was exquisite and a few steps away from the bustling Salamanca area. Car parking underneath so perfect for those heading in/out of Hobart.
The rooms were very well appointed, the breakfast was OUSTANDING, and the staff (particularly Dave) were engaging, kind and always available. And the indoor pool and sauna were awesome after a hard day of hiking. We didn't expect this sort of high-quality service or quality from what we thought was a budget hotel - this is luxury and service at a great price. We will definitely be back.
The apartment had everything we needed, as we came by plane, and limited to what we could bring. Everything was there, even a bottle of wine on the table when we walked in. The fridge had food for breakfasts, and lots of snack food, bread, cheese, milk etc. The view from the front door/dining table was perfect, looking over Hobart and the Casino.
The hotel was in a great location - an easy walk to the waterfront, shops & restaurants in the CBD. The staff were helpful & friendly. We had a spacious room with a harbour view. The main eating area was fantastic & reasonably priced as we were staying in Hobart Mon- Wed when it was very quiet in the city & not much was open.
Quiet location within a few minutes of Hobart CBD - the apartment is fully renovated with modern furniture and bedding
There are good kitchen appliances, ceramic electric cooktop and microwave, dishwasher and washing machine - luxury cutlery and utensils.
Large Flatscreen TV and free Wifi rounds up the facilities.
The hotel location was superb, right in the city centre of Hobart and walking distance to the wharf, Salamanca Market and other key points of interest. We had a hired car and parked at the car park nearby, 5 minutes walking distance and still cheaper than the hotel valet.
Perfect location to roam around Hobart! Great restaurants and bars nearby, but also a 10min walk into the CBD for more options.
Room was beautiful and bed was incredibly comfy. Lighting was dull, but suited the mood of the hotel.
Will definitely be coming back again.
Our stay at the Battery Point Manor was one of the best in Hobart! We were surprised by the size of the room, it was so spacious and the hotel is so close to Hobart city. We would definitely book here again if we return to Hobart in the future.
Very clean and comfy hotel in Hobart. We had late arrival and was great to have a smiling face greeting us after long flights and delays. It's a 10-15 minute walk to waterfront through the very historical Hobart streets. Was great for us.
Room very comfortable and hotel overlooking the docks area was ideal. Breakfast was delightful and the staff very friendly and helpful.
A historically significant hotel so close to Salamanca and all waterfront eatery's!
Located close to Salamaca and CBD, the hotel is agood place to explore Hobart. Restaurants of varied cuisines are within walking distance.
Clean room and comfortable bed.
Helpfull front desk.
Booked this hotel for our visit to Hobart, clean hotel but could do with a refurb (some parts are quiet tired) away from this, location good.
We ended up stayiing twice.
This hotel is a convenient location to Hobart CBD. The hotel is modern and comfortable with a laundry for guests onsite and an economical breakfast available.
Fine decoration and full of light everywhere in the house. Full of space for an extended family to live here. We love to stay there for vacations in Hobart.
