Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.
Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.
And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.
Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
You get what you pay for. We just wanted a place to crash between flights and it was perfect. Rooms are clean and water was hot. The neighborhood is not as bad as I thought it could be. No homeless.

Honestly, I don't like LA a lot.
Honestly, I don't like LA a lot. I prefer Santa Barbara, San Francisco or Monterey in terms of city. LA is a very expensive city because all the touristic points are kinda far from each other and your options to move in the city are subway, uber or rent a car.
The issue is that in the subway you'll find a lot of users under the influence and, for first time travelers, it must be a shock. But it's the easiest way to move around.
The ubers are very expensive and renting a car will increase your chances to get in a lot of traffic jam.
There are some nice places such as the Farmer Market, observatory, Santa Monica and the Parks (universal and Disneyland). And of course the walk of fame but I found very tacky and ugly. The food is also good, you can find very nice restaurants and coffee. Bottega Louie was my favorite as well as the food in Farmers Market.
So my advice is to stay in a strategic place where you can avoid traffic jam and visit the places around. And plan a short stay and visit other places such as Santa Barbara, San Francisco and San Diego.

Great places to visit - hike to Hollywood sign, helicopter ride over the city, Laguna Beach, Venice beach, Santa Monica Pier.
Not so great - expensive! Busy during rush hours, big city to get around so need a car. Difficult to find healthy food options as few and far between. Prepare to queue!

Dodgers game was an addition to our trip and we truly enjoyed it. We found people in the city to be friendly and helpful. Favorite areas to stay were Beverly Hills and Hollywood. And downtown stay at the CitizenM was perfect to catch the game.

Santa Monica is fine. The beach.
Santa Monica is fine. The beach. The main street without cars. Good shopping and restaurants opportunities. We booked a hop-on hop off tour. One sees a lot of skyscrapers in LA but the streets are nothing special
After reading reviews you really would think this place was in a horrible area and that's far from the truth. You do have to pass by a lot..a lot of homeless people, it's Los Angeles downtown, not hollywood but once you get in the area of the hotel there a many blocks where they have kept it clean (literally power wash the side walks every morning) and are building it up. There's a convenient store right downstairs, many restaurants and shops walking distance. There's also a little shopping mall "Little Tokyo".
Hotel and room were very clean, bed and pillows very comfortable. It's close enough to downtown L.A. without paying L.A. prices. We attended a concert near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and it was about a 20-25 minute Uber/Lyft ride to and from the concert. All the staff was excellent, from the front desk to the wait/bar staff to the morning breakfast buffet. Great job! Scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, toast or bagel, some fresh fruit, coffee, O.J. or apple juice, very satisfying to start your day.
Lovely golden age of Hollywood hotel with spectacular lobby and beautifully decorated (if a bit worn on the edges) public spaces. Located in old downtown LA, which is an easily walkable area packed with the best of the city landmarks. Everyone working at this hotel is polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. Bed was very comfortable and we loved the generous sized closet and big drawers to unpack into. Beautiful old wooden windows that actual open so you can get some fresh air.
Perfect location on 1st street in the heart of Little Tokyo, arguably the best part of Downtown Los Angeles. I had an amazing stay from check in to check out. My executive king room on the top floor was flawless. Clean, stylish, and comfortable. All the amenities were exactly where a seasoned traveler would want them. Plus the bar is open until 2am (a rarity in hotels) and you can shop for gifts & snacks using your smart phone. LOVE IT!
the hotel was in a perfect spot close to a lot of food choices and near by stores. inside the hotel we had a bar downstairs and upstairs rooftop bar which had amazing views. the best part was the late checkout option. when you had a fun night till 7 am you really just want to sleep in. for being downtown I couldn’t hear much of the noice of LOS ANGELES which was good for my sleep. my stay at this location was top tier! I’ll stay again
The price realted to the ubication was amazing even on december holidays. The place is in front of the Doubly Teather with view to the wall of the hollywood stars. However if you have a bad luck and probably paying the cheapest tariff the room coul be more like a shelter than a hostel with people on drugs. Neverthelss, I asked for a change and the new room was totally different very clean and very confrotable.
This is not the best hotel I ever stayed in, but it's great value for money! It's as cheap as a motel 6, but has decent services, it's impeccably clean and friendly staff.
It's a historic building, 100 yrs old, so it's not like a chain hotel, but it was comfortable enough, and it has a lot of charm.
The street facing rooms have views to the Hollywood sign, and the area is very clean and safe to walk.
it was in such a safe area and walkable to lots of super nice bars and restaurants! if you want to head into the Hollywood walk of fame, it’s just a short cab ride away. get the LYFT app and it’ll be super cheap. the room was really beautiful and comfortable. all the staff were lovely. really great stay! so great we ended up coming back half way through our trip for a quick stop off in LA.
The location of this hotel was perfect. It was directly across from the beach and the Santa Monica pier was a 3 min walk. A short walk to 3rd street promenade and downtown Main Street . The staff was very helpful they let us check in early and out day of departure they stored our bags and even allowed us to use the office restroom to change before going to the airport.
Location - free to get to from LAX using car rental shuttle. Room was clean, comfy bed and a lot cheaper than other airport hotels. Yes it's directly under the plane flight path but it didn't really bother us after a long flight. Air con was good and could leave the fan on to help create a bit of white noise. There was always a car park spare when we needed one.
The hotel is conveniently located near the airport. It can be reached with their shuttle, which is free and easy to spot when it passes by the departure area of LAX. The room was very large and had all we needed: modern design and a large comfortable bed. Considering LA prices, it is fairly cheap.
I needed a cheap room close to the airport as a transit night before leaving the country - this hotel did the job pretty well. The room was a bit old and tired but the bed was good, the coffee machine worked and that was all that mattered! The 24-hour shuttle to the airport was a massive winner!
Room size was small but not unique for a "boutique" hotel in downtown L.A. The best hat rack display anywhere. Didn't love the dinner menu so we skipped. The bar/restaurant seemed properly staffed (4-6) but we waited for quite a while to get two (2) drinks in the bar area after 7:30 PM.
There was no breakfast included in the price. When I was booking I was under the impression it was included. The hotel parking was very expensive. In the area we found much cheaper overnight parking for $25.00. Otherwise the hotel is clean and located right in downtown.
Perfect for a one night stay near LAX. It was cheaper than other options close to the airport and the room was comfy and the airport shuttle was great. Check-in was easy and there was good food around for dinner.
It's a great location both for exploring Hollywood and accessing public transport to see other surrounding areas.
The view of the Los Angeles city scape from the upper floors are some of the best in the city
Very central location in KoreaTown . One block from subway line D to downtown and bus lines to LADT messengers on Wishire Blvd.
Best there is a restaurant in the hotel
Fabulous hotel and fantastic price for Los Angeles. Lovely communal area with pool table and we couldn't have hoped for better parking facilities either.
