It was quiet and had a lovely outlook. Loved the little extra touches- like the warm being room on arrival and the bread being there for breakfast. Communication with owner was also clear and excellent. Would stay again.

    A lovely town.

A lovely town. The people were friendly and the taxis drivers were great 👍 I was only here this time to organise my deceased uncles estate sadly but I love the town train service from Melbourne is awesome. Thank you Castlemaine for your hospitality ❤️

Great place with lots of gold rush history behind it.

Great place with lots of gold rush history behind it. It is only about a 2 hour drive from Melbourne, mostly on the Calder Freeway. Originally called Forest Creek, it was later rename Castlemaine in 1854. God was first discovered there in 1851. There is an old jail there (but it was closed when we visited). Castlemaine's main industry is food manufacturing, particularly smallgoods. Tourism is also a major player. There are lots of interesting historical buildings and homes. Worth a visit.

We stayed at the Castle Motel overnight. We shared a unit with friends. A large lounge/bedroom plus a separate bedroom. The unit was clean and comfortable at a very reasonable price. We were very happy with our stay and will stay here again, should the need arise.

Lovely town in the Goldfields of Central Victoria. We were only there for a short time but enjoyed an excellent dinner and beers at Shedshaker Brewing, the market at Wesley hill and brunch at Saffs cafe. Nice shops with alternative vibe.

In my opinion, Castlemaine is a peaceful, sleepy town but with a hidden side. Once inside Saff's cafe at 11 am there are some pretty interesting characters, all of whom appeared animated and deep in conversations with their group including a group of 3 elders wearing black clothes with black hats (not witches variety). It made me think of a time when you could turn up somewhere without feeling judged and be accepted for who you are. You're bound to meet some interesting people! You can find loose leaf teas at any cafe, not just plastic filled tea bags..Wonderful to see difference and individuality again, Soooo refreshing! So many churches to visit, a lovely Botanical Gardens to walk, good food places, excellent public transport or car. Not much traffic to negotiate!

My host was very accommodating for a slightly earlier check-in which I needed for an event I was attending. My host kindly drove me into town (albeit just over 1 km) as I was dressed up for a wedding and the weather was quite warm. Was a lovely home, comfortable and clean. Was ideal for my stay over in Castlemaine

Central local, walking distance to great coffee and friendly pub for a hearty meal. Adjacent to the Botanic gardens for a morning walk. The cabin had just been newly renovated with contemporary design and facilities. Very comfortable. Literally a freezing Castlemaine morning but warm and snug inside.
