The cathedral is one of the finest in Sicily and is a must visit. The complex is beautiful and can be viewed from the top level of the cathedral. Exquisite embroidered vestaments and silverware, accessories and ceramics are displayed on different levels of the staircase. Lots to visit, but our timing was terrible and it was raining. The cathedral is a must, but we didn't arrive in time before they closed. Same with the other museums. Monreale is a city built on the side of the mountain, so be prepared to walk up hills and stairs! The big attraction there is the Duomo in the main square which is just beautiful in the inside as the artwork is done in gold! You will have to pay an entrance fee, but it is worth it. The streets can be a bit of challenge to navigate as there are street vendors, cars, vespas, bicycles and pedestrians all trying maneuver through the narrow streets. We spent only an afternoon here, but so glad that we included it on our trip. The cathedral was the most beautiful we had seen on our trip to Italy - we also visited ones in Palermo, Cefalu, and Catania. There were several interesting restaurants on side streets near the town center and we found a lovely ceramic/mosaic shop just off the central square. Views were amazing and it was an easy car ride to the airport for our departure the next day.Guest review byJoy

It might be a bit more difficult for those without private means of transportation. The staff are a very nice and generous. They were very hospitable and easy to get in contact with for any questions or concerns. The room was a good size for three people with ample storage. The continental breakfast was good and served (weather permitting) in the garden. The B&B was a ten minute walk up a steep hill and steps to the centre of the town where there were several restaurants, although many were closed on a Monday. We stayed in a spacious, comfortable and chic room with a balcony that overlooked Monreale and Palermo. It’s Run by a lovely family who made us feel very welcome.
