Bonfacio is lovely.
Bonfacio is lovely. The Old Town is perched on the cliffs and offers superb views across the sea to Sardinia. It is packed with lovely winding streets and little shops and restaurants offered a wide choice of food. Our fav restaurant in Old Town was Chez Julien and near the port, Chez Francis. We didn't have a car but still managed to get around - there's a bus service to Porto Vecchio and you can take the ferry to Sardinia, it only takes an hour. There are plenty of boat trips from companies dotted around the harbour. We were there off season, there are more bus routes available during the main summer season. Bonifacio is truly breathtaking — perched dramatically on limestone cliffs, with views that look like something out of a dream. The old town is charming and full of character, with narrow cobbled streets, historic buildings, and a unique blend of French and Mediterranean atmosphere. The harbor is lively and elegant, full of yachts, restaurants, and a laid-back holiday vibe, while the upper town offers stunning panoramas and a rich sense of history. A couple of days here gives the time to explore the city and see the sights - the marina, the staircase, the bastion tour, walk the walls and do the hillside walk to the east of the city. We only spent a few hours in Bonifacio itself but that was sufficient. The citadel is stunning, perched on the clifftops, but is best seen from outside if honest. We did not take a boat trip as they seemed excessively expensive and we were disappointed by the high cost of parking. But if you drive 5 minutes outside of the town, heading west, there is free parking on the road with a stunning walk across the cliffs to the town and citadel. The pool was lovely and the grounds kept very well. Our breakfast was simple but good at an extra cost. There was only one WC in the hotel grounds. It was ok, but most hotels would have more than one WC, especially as the pool area got busy at times. Everything in the room was perfect, comfortable and quiet, however the furniture on the balcony could have been of better quality and was loose and falling apart, so not good to sit on.
