The location, directly on Lake Orta overlooking the island was magical. You can swim directly from a pier into the lake and there are quite a few sun beds, as well as terraces for lounging. Our suite was fairly spacious if a little dark and there was a day bed in the room, as well as a kettle and fixings for hot drinks. Our suite did not have direct terrace access although we did have a view of the lake from our room. The location of the breakfast on a terrace overlooking the lake was lovely too.

The room is good size, clean, quiet, very economically furnished, nothing extra.. Balcony overlooks the nice inner yard. The bathroom is rather small. It was ok for one night sleep. The big benefit is the garage located under the building.

The location is great. We got a parking on the ground level which was very fortunate. When we arrived after 4:00 pm, one of our rooms was not ready but hotel front desk and cleaning staff worked hard to make it ready so we could move in. Breakfast dining area is great with the view of the lake. Breakfast offers many choices.

    The old town is lovely, and pedestrian.

    The old town is lovely, and pedestrian. Lots of ice cream shops and restaurants. it wasn't too crowded (mid-July). There is a lovely lakeside path, especially on the north side of town. You can take a boat to the island which only takes 5 mins. Walking around the island takes around 20 mins (it's an interior path so you don't see the lake much while on the island), but the church is lovely. You can also walk up (quite steep) to the 'Sacro Monte' on the hill with its many frescoed chapels and churches dedicated to St Francis of Assisi. Access to the town might not be easy if you have mobility problems as the car park is on the hill.

    It is a quiet and historic town - visit to the island was worthwhile and there is a nice park with views to walk in above the town. It is a long, steep, walk from the railways station though! (we were helpfully picked up on the way in and Luca arranged a taxi for us going back)

    A lovely small town with narrow, cobbled streets. Easy access to boat trips across the lake. The Basilica on Isola San Giulio is outstanding and definitely worth a visit. Swimming in the lake is fabulous! Good bars and restaurants in the town. L'Officina was a lovely wee bar with great cocktails and friendly staff.

    A lovely town devoid of traffic with a varied range of bars...

    A lovely town devoid of traffic with a varied range of bars and restaurants. Lovely walks around the town and lake, plus boat trips to other towns on the lake and the island. It does get busy at weekends with visitors. There is a big car park to leave your car, about 5 min walk to town square; payment is automated and simple. You can drive into the town at certain times of the day.

    Beautiful historic village with a peaceful lakeside piazza with many restaurants and cafes. Our favourite restaurant was La Piazzeta in the main square. Lots of gelato shops to help manage the summer heat too! Great little town to just walk about. We didn’t travel too far from the village during our stay as had done lots of driving in our last location. Good area for road biking though.

    Staying in the old town was really special.

    Staying in the old town was really special. Just a great size to wander through the cobbled streets and enjoy the lake. A boat trip and walk around the island was stunning. It was peaceful and tranquil especially in the evening. There were many interesting bars and eateries and the people were very friendly.

    The rooms were beautiful and the reception staff were charming. The hotel is right on the lake with a private jetty you can swim off. Incredibly, our room had been slept in by the philosopher Nietzsche in 1882. I'm surprised they don't make something of this (other than a plaque outside!). The room had a jacuzzi bath which was rather nice (although it stopped working on the third morning when I'd just been for a run and would have enjoyed it most).

    The location of Hotel Bocciolo is wonderful - overlooking, but also elevated above Lake Orta. Breakfast was perfect, and we could sit outside and admire the view. Our room was private with a rear patio that, had we had more time, could have been great to use. Parking was perfect. We were able to walk down to the edge of Lake Orta within 3-4 minutes, and the view is incredible!! The staff were incredibly helpful.

    The hotel location was perfect for a relaxing stay in Orta - 5 minutes walk from everywhere. The view from our room over the lake was stunning and with both breakfast and dinner being on the open terrace overlooking the lake it couldn't have been better. The swimming pool was a bonus: good for swimming or sunbathing.
