We have visited Southport on many occasions and really enjoyed it, but this time we had our pet dog with us and were very disappointed with the lack of dog friendly shops and cafes on Lord Street, The area needs a good tidy up as there was a lot of litter around. Didnt get to the beach as the weather had been really rough for a couple of days into our holiday. There are plenty of buses around if you rely on public transport and the rail station is in the town centre. The resort is looking a bit neglected, lots of empty shops on Lord Street. The main shopping precinct is busy during the day with a good variety of high street shops although most shops and restaurants are closed by 10pm. Great place as a base to travel about the Merseyside area, lots of buses and trains. Usually have a day trip, so treated us to a stay over Always clean looking, smooth pathways near waterside etc. Booked: Splash World - excellent 2 hours of fun Bowling - enjoyable and children did table-tennis & pool Adventure Theme Park - brilliant day, stayed over 5 hours and they went on the Log Flume 28 times!! Southport is a typical British seaside resort that's seen...
Southport is a typical British seaside resort that's seen better days and deserves to see them again. It's a delight to wander around the promenade and the marine lake. The beach and the parks are also worth a visit. However, the main street (Lord Street) is a shadow of its former glory, with far too many empty stores and too many shoddy ones. I hold the local council to count for this- they've allowed the town to fall into disrepair and they can't even keep their relatively recently renovated pier to remain open.Guest review byStevenUnited Kingdom - 8.0

There are lots of shops for those who like looking around and shopping. The play area, arcade and carousel etc are good value, not overpriced and well maintained. There is a boating lake There is a library, and an art gallery which is worth a look. There appear to be plenty of night time restaurants and lively bars. The Westminster Tea Room is a gem.
