Desenzano del Garda is a small town at the banks of Lake Garda. Maybe its not the most beautiful town of Garda but it has picturesque narrow streets, port with good connection to other coastal towns and several excellent restaurants. In my opinion, its a very good starting point for exploring of Lago di Garda because its the closest town to Bergamo international airport. I was here in July but for those who do not keen on swimming in lake the best time for visit is April / May or September / October. For trips I would recommend Sirmione, Bardolino and Salo. I think it had a lot of potential, but the cycling event made it difficult to access things, including me and 3 other tourists missing a tour as we couldn't cross the street.
