    Not a hospitable island!

Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.

Lots to do on this beautiful island for all ages.

Lots to do on this beautiful island for all ages. We visited Gerolimni waterfall, Cave Foros, Korthi, the olive mill, the comtemporary art gallery. It was lovely to walk round the town and look at the statues, ancient fort the lighthouse a d takein the ambience. The local dive instructor was brilliant. Ran out of time for Batsi, wine tasting and some of the other museums. Lots of amazing restaurants too.

Our apartment was on the outskirts of Gavrio, a 10-15 minute walk (initially uphill) from the ferry terminal. We could have walked there, but would never have found it as there was no signage to show us where it was. Would recommend taking a taxi as much easier, and quicker, and only cost €7. Gavrio was quite nice with a few restaurants and eating out was not very expensive. There is only one bus service on the island, which travels from Gavrio to Chora, the capital, calling at Batsi and Korthi and the timetable is scheduled according to ferry arrival and departure times. We took the bus to Chora, which was comfortable and took about 45 minutes. But make sure that you are fully aware of departure times from there as they are few and far between. Chora was nice with plenty to see and enjoy walking around the streets. It is recomended that you hire a car or bike/scooter if you want to see the rest of the island otherwise you will not only miss out on some of the the fabulous sights up in the mountains, but you will also miss, in our opinion, the best beach on the island at Vitali. The road there is very winding but quite smooth until the last couple of miles, when it becomes a dirt track, which is fine as long as you take it steady (unlike the locals). There is a very well run beach bar/restaurant with very welcoming staff, who do not charge the earth for the sun beds, and the music is not noisy, unlike some of the other beaches on the island. The water was crystal clear and not very crowded. The toilet facilities are very good. Although the beach itself is stony, we would strongly recommend visiting it at least once during your stay. We had a very ejoyable and peaceful day there. Overall we would recommend visiting this island.

    Andros is an underestimated destination.

Andros is an underestimated destination. The island has more than 10 beautiful beaches, reasonable prices, 2hrs from Athens but most importantly is not spoiled from over tourism like the rest of Cyclades. People are still hospitable Greek and then mood traditionally tranquil. If you are looking for an original Greek summer experience this is the place. Only downside is the road network which is limited and too narrow and can be a bit overwhelming for folks outside Mediterranean .

Chora of Andros is an absolute delight — a place where history, culture, and natural beauty come together in perfect harmony. Strolling through its charming alleys feels like stepping into a postcard, with elegant neoclassical buildings, blooming bougainvillaea, and the peaceful rhythm of island life all around. There’s so much to discover: fascinating museums that tell the story of Andros’ rich heritage, cozy taverns serving delicious local dishes, and lovely shops filled with traditional products and handcrafted gifts. The vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere makes it a joy to explore at your own pace. The town is just steps from the sea, offering stunning views and peaceful spots to sit and take it all in. You’ll also find beautiful monuments and historical landmarks scattered throughout, adding depth and meaning to every walk. Chora is the perfect destination to relax, connect with nature, and soak up the authentic spirit of the Cyclades — a place that stays with you long after you leave.

    Visited Andros during Christmas holidays.

Visited Andros during Christmas holidays. There were only a few people around. We spent time walking some of the well preserved trails. Had lunch at 'souvlakia Gavriou` in Gavrio, `Bellitsa' in Batsi and at "`Kalogridis fresh fish" in Ormos Korthiou. Needless to say all of them were perfect. Also loved Zairis kalsounia in Mesaria, Andros.

A lovely comfortable room with a balcony facing the sea set back one street behind the seafront. We were greeted by Anna who welcomed us warmly with very welcome ice cold home made lemonade. We had just hiked across the island from Batsi and were hot, dusty and exhausted! Anna left water and juice for us in the fridge and gave us lots of useful information about Andros. Communication with her was quickly responded to. Would highly recommend for a visit to Andros Chora

The warm welcome from Caroline who was an exceptional host. She came and picked us up from the Chora bus station and upon arrival gave us delicious Greek traditional Andros baked sweets. The towels were changed daily and the apartment cleaned. Caroline was very responsive to any questions or help we needed and the apartment kitchenette was well equipped.
