In a small area there are extinct volcanoes, steaming hillsides, lakes with strange lava 'islands', ethereal mountains…….. so strange. So beautiful. Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it. There is so much to see and do: crater hikes, thermal baths, geothermal areas, bird watching, lava features. And just overall, it has beautiful views of farms and countryside. Both relaxing and exciting. It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.
It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges. Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths. If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution. This hotel was located in a great area for us to explore this part of Iceland. The hotel is a great option and I could not fault anything. Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.Guest review byAnonymous

They also had a coffee machine in the lobby which had every possible coffee (latte, mocha, etc) and this was free and available at all times. The location fronted the Pseudocraters and Lake Myvatn which are amazing. It is also within driving distance of a number of attractions.
