Check-in was super easy and it was nice having your own little private lodge. We also walked the trail on the property and it was beautiful and private. They cleaned our room daily and the AC worked very well to keep us cool on some 90+ °F in days. Breakfast was also lovely and had a great view of arenal. It was a very peaceful place to stay in good proximity to Mistico hanging bridges and downtown fortuna.

It's beautiful! Wonderful food and people. We liked the waterfall repelling, spent half a day at the rope swing, major highlight of the trip, didn't spend a lot of time in town, loved the Fortuna waterfall, didn't prefer the free hot springs. We are a family with 3 teenage boys. We would have liked more time here to explore and visit another hot spring/spa.

The staff was friendly and helpful.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The property was close to the local tours and the busses picked us up for trips to the Arenal volcano and to North Fields Coffee. The view of the volcano from the main lodge area was a treat, and the food was delicious. We would go back again!

La Fortuna was absolutely superb. There was so much to do.
La Fortuna was absolutely superb. There was so much to do. We went for 5 nights, but we could have done double that.
We really enjoyed the hot springs, white water rafting, zip linging, mud baths, la fortuna waterfall, chocolate tasting. All were very good.
The night walk was a little overrated. We walked for 2 hours getting bitten alive not actually seeing too much. Was cool seeing some frogs but $45 each for the privelage seemed a bit steep.
The volcano 1968 tour was also a lot. There was 4 of us so we paid near $100 to only see the Volcano for a few moments at one of the two viewing points. If you're into hiking I would suggest this isn't for you.
Costa Ricans themselves were absolutely lovely. Very welcoming and perfect English on the whole (Yes i know i'm ignorant..).
However our biggest issue was the cost of everything. We naively expected it to be a lot cheaper than it was. OFten found ourselves spending over $200 for a meal for 4. Also there is a card charge for most places, so take cash if you can.
But overall was excellent. The views alone are worth it
Tifakara is such a unique place to stay. The rooms are tucked away along winding paths in the jungle. The outdoor shower was my favorite part of the stay along with the balcony overlooking the jungle (I saw a Toucan). Oh, the frog tour with Josue seriously is worth it!! We hunted for frogs in the rain with flashlights and had a blast! A big bonus was having coffee always available. The area where the hotel is located is really cool–tucked away right near La Fortuna waterfall and close to some cute places.
we enjoyed our time here. the staff are super friendly, it has a relaxed vibe and is quiet. we saw a sloth immediately after arriving, there are plenty of birds and the garden is well looked after.
the hotel is a short walk into the centre of La Fortuna although there isn’t a pavement for most of the way.
the pool area was lovely. food was excellent. we also enjoyed the night walk at their sister hotel.
our room was #1 which had a view of the top of the volcano from the bed which we had not expected.
Beautiful place!
There’s a really nice hiking trail on the property.
It’s not in fortuna town, but we liked the feeling that we are in the middle of the jungle.
The room had a great view and great air conditioning.
Bed was comfortable and the shower is superb!
There’s a heated pool with a pool bar- this was great for hanging out when the rain started.
The hotel restaurant has tasty food (we ate only once) and the breakfast is really good (not too big but satisfying)
Highly recommend
super place to stay ,close to la fortuna town and all this had to offer. breakfast was great with super views of wild birds including toucans feeding off fruit on platforms supplied by hotel we ate dinner twice in resturant it was great value and two of the best meals we had in our stay in Costa Rica We went on Sloth trip with Armando saw 27 (a record) in the evening he took us on a night walk around the grounds and saw many frogs and other creatures overall great stay
We stayed at Roca Negra Hotel just outside La Fortuna for four nights. In a nutshell, this hotel is a gem and I highly recommend it! Each room or cabana has a private patio or deck and it is set amid a lush tropical garden with pathways leading to the pool and breakfast area. A few kilometers outside of La Fortuna it is just across the road from several restaurants. The friendly hospitality from our hostess Elizabeth and staff were exceptional.
We had amazing vacation in casa Luna. Luxury & Comfortable rooms, great (almost private) hot springs. Perfect location, 5 min by walk from chocolate tour, 2 km far from La Fortuna waterfall, 11min by car to Stoth territory and market also close by walk. Hotel's restaurant is delicious with friendly prices. Hotel is situated in the jungle, so beside nice short trail in the area, you can hear jungle at night straight from your bed.
The hotel is located directly in the city Center. We loved the patio, where you could flee the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna or just rest after the tours to the volcano. You can book quite a few tours directly at the front desk. Special thanks to Maria, who was always there whenever questions arose.
For all you backpackers out there: if you travel by bus, the bus terminal is only 5 minutes (by foot) away.
The property was amazing! the setting is spectacular! As we drove up to the hotel we were greeted with a smile and friendly hello! The young man at the front desk was so welcoming and gave us all the info needed for our stay, very friendly. The food at the restaurant was very good. The hot springs were incredible! This hotel is a must see when visiting La Fortuna!
The location was excellent, with tremendous views of the Arenal Volcano while also being an easy drive to the retail part of La Fortuna as well as outdoor activities. Our room and all public spaces we immaculately clean, and the landscaping was lovely and beautifully maintained. It was great to have the privacy of an individual casita vs a standard hotel room.
One of the best hotels during our 2-week trip in Costa Rica. The room was spacious. The view was just phenomenal (at least on the first day because the rest of the stay was unfortunately cloudy). The pool and the hot tubes were also great. The hotel food was definitely the best during our trip - highly recommended having dinner there.
This hotel was a nice find near la Fortuna, and it is close to the main points (hot springs, volcano) the view of the volcano is amazing! Also the restaurant came as a nice surprise since we were not expecting such great food, so we didn't even had to leave the hotel to find dinner. It is great value for money!
Great hotel in Fortuna. The rooms were very big and comfortable. The gardens were perfectly kept and everywhere was exceptionally clean. Breakfast was great, with lots of choice. The pool / springs, volcano observatory and nature walks were a great addition to the overall experience.
This is a great spot in La Fortuna. Staff was freindly, rooms were clean, the courtyard area with pool was beautiful, and we had a view of the volcano! We even got to see a sloth in a tree right next to the hotel! Great breakfast, would definitely stay here again.
Hotel Alicia was in a great location, a few minutes' walk from the centre of La Fortuna and a big supermarket. The couple running the hotel were very friendly and served a great breakfast to order each morning- and we loved their cute dog!
Pool and hot tubs were nice. Also nice to have a restaurant at the hotel which includes free breakfast. Our room was cleaned daily. Close enough to La Fortuna also. Easy to get Ubers to pick us up from our location.
loved the pool! staff are accommodating and kind and the hotel is very close to the fortuna waterfall. great view from the pool. hotel bar is great. rooms are clean and AC works very well.
Great location, close to Fortuna waterfalls and to many restaurants in the center of town. Bonus access to the thermal pools of their sister hotel Volcano Lodge, about 7 km away.
The are around the hotel is beautiful but we couldn't enjoy it much as it was raining for days straight (unfortunate storm during dry season). Breakfast area is beautiful.
slightly out of La Fortuna makes this hotel perfect place to stay and relax away from crowds of the city. In the middle of the jungle with beautiful gardens and pools.
