If you have no need for the beach, then La Fortuna is excellent. However, if want to visit a beach, it's up to you if a 3 or 4 hour drive is worth it for the Hot Springs. Because, Jaco and other beach destinations also have waterfalls and other activities in common with La Fortuna, but they don't have the hot Springs

We liked the waterfall repelling, spent half a day at the rope swing, major highlight of the trip, didn't spend a lot of time in town, loved the Fortuna waterfall, didn't prefer the free hot springs. Fortuna was lots of fun. We went to hike at Mistico Arenal hanging bridges and visited the Don Olivo chocolate farm. They were both great outings! We also enjoyed local food and the pool at our hotel, Hotel Arenal Country InnWalker

This friendly family owned business is a great option for a little escape in the magical rainforest paradise. Owners provided us with a traditional Costa Rican breakfast which was super delicious. Our villa was located high above the ground and was super nice and clean! This hotel is a short driving distance from the centre of La Fortuna which is nearby the base of Arenal Volcano! Definitely would recommend and visit the place again!

There are several pools, a pool slide, and even a zip line ride on premises. Two of the pools are geothermal but only warm not hot. One of them is the swim-up pool bar that serves drinks and food. The property is in a great location to stage your tours, and only a 2000 crc ($3 usd!) ride to downtown La Fortuna. Rigoberto is so helpful, he suggested many activities, excursions and services at great deal prices. Other staff members are also nice and kind. The hotel is on the main road of the city, there are many restaurants and stores nearby. The room is exactly as the photos on the site. The breakfast is good too. I came alone this time, but I'd love to come back with my girl friend next time.
