If you have no need for the beach, then La Fortuna is excellent. However, if want to visit a beach, it's up to you if a 3 or 4 hour drive is worth it for the Hot Springs. We liked the waterfall repelling, spent half a day at the rope swing, major highlight of the trip, didn't spend a lot of time in town, loved the Fortuna waterfall, didn't prefer the free hot springs. The town of Fortuna is small, but the resorts are abundant. There are so many wonderful activities right at your doorstep. Zip lines, repelling, hanging bridges, waterfalls, hot springs to name a few!The view of the Arenal Bolcano were spectacular!such a cool place!

Enjoyed the Fortuna waterfall hike BUT beware of the steps…great hike but 500 steps DOWN, then 500 steps BACK UP!😉 beautiful falls and swimming area! Loved our zipline and rappel tour!! (Go Adventures!) And the hot springs across the street afterwards…ALL in the rain!🙃 Loved our hotel Arenal Rabfer! Walkability! Worst: DRIVING, roads, local drivers and scooters! He is nice, knowledgeable and he helped me take fantastic photos of sloths and frogs. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe at the Hotel. I will return!
