Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian, hotel in San Sebastián

This 5-star hotel is located opposite San Sebastian’s Victoria Eugenia Theater, with views over the Cantabrian Sea and Urumea River.

The room was very luxurious with walk in bathroom, shower and tub. Room had a foyer which added to the luxury. Beautiful view from window of the river and ocean. The hotel is within walking distance to just about everything desirable in San Sebastian. The museum was 2 blocks away. Just above the museum is a beautiful park with extensive walking trails. Also a beautiful walking promenade to La Concha Beach, etc. Bring walking shoes! You really do not need cab service there if you are capable. Recommend you book any desirable restaurants in advance of your arrival. The concierge was very helpful, but advance booking is required during high season especially for any Michelin rated restaurants. The concierge gave excellent advice and is able to get you transportation if you visit neighboring villages. I highly recommend going to Getaria for wine tour and a visit to the Balenciaga Museum. The breakfast at the hotel is extensive and excellent. I highly recommend you include that in the room cost. The Maria Christina Hotel is "the place to stay in San Sebastian".

FAQs about hotels in San Sebastián

Amazing Coastline and Historical Beauty

San Sebastian is a famous beach resort in the north of Spain with picturesque coastline, vibrant nightlife and amazing Basque gastronomy.

Playa de la Concha is one of the world’s most popular city beaches, ideal for watersports lovers. Rent a surfboard on Zurriola beach or just relax on a cosy lounge chair under your umbrella.

Established as the culinary capital of Spain, San Sebastian features a variety of bars and restaurants serving delicious pintxos (Basque-style tapas), fresh seafood and fine wine. According to Spanish tradition, you should have one tapa and a wine in one bar, then move on to the next bar.

The tree-covered hill standing just across the gulf is called Urgull and has spectacular views over the bay and city. Parte Vieja is the old part of the town where you can mix with the locals and visit some of the city’s most interesting historical attractions.

San Sebastian Airport is located 12 miles east, so it's a short journey into the city itself. Booking.com offers a choice of accommodations ranging from luxury hotels to guest houses, apartments and budget hostels.

A very busy town with lots of tourists would not like to be there in the summer. The museum was a quiet and a good space to roam and keep cool. We ate the pintxos of course and loved the way you can just arrive eat and drink at almost all times of the day catering to all types of diets.

Great couple of day relaxing, hotel was in a great location within walking distance of Monte Iguledo on one side of the bay and the port and old town on the other. Note there are steep hills and steps from our hotel to the beach. Great fenicula railway up the Monte and great views. Very good pinxtos in old town.

The best city break for food & drink lovers. Had particularly great culinary experiences in Sirimiri and Kapadokia. Surfed with Bera Bera Surf school on the sea front. Other than surfing and exploring the headland we never really left the old town as there was so much to enjoy there. Bring your sun glasses and your rain jacket!

The 'pintxos crawl' during each afternoon around the Old Town bars was great fun and delicious food. Great views of the bay from the promenade and the top of Monte Igueldo. The 40 minute catamaran boat trip around the bay is recommended. We ate out at a traditional sidreria ( Basque Cider House) one night - set menu and unlimited cider!

Great location, overlooking one of San Sebastián's beaches ( the one good for surfing) Few minutes walk from the vibrant old town. Reception staff were all very welcoming and helpful, recommending good places to eat. We went on the open air bus tour, as well as the little tourist train- both were good value for money and gave us useful information about the history of San Sebastián and helped us to get our bearings around the town. The start of the bus tour was right near the hotel.

I like several things about this hotel - it exceeded my expectations. It is located in a trendy neighbourhood of San Sebastian - called Gros - full of wonderful restaurants. It is very close to the beach - 2 mins walk. You can reach the old town in a 15 mins walk on the beach promenada. I also liked the coffee / tea facilities on the floor and the free 'fridge' with water and refreshments. Very cool idea. The showet gel / soap / body cream had also a very nice perfume.

Beautiful, newly renovated hotel in a charming, peaceful location Rooms are beautiful Excellent breakfast Staff is incredibly hospitable and helpful, probably more than anywhere else I stayed at during my 3 weeks in Spain, which I imagine is a big reason they get such a high rating. They really make you feel like a valued guest vs. a paying customer and that they’re happy to accommodate you in any way they can. Access to as much free coffee and water as you want

The apartment was great. Wonderful layout, thoughtfully appointed and worked great for our family of four. Comfy beds! Lots of room. Only time during two weeks in Spain that we were all able to actually unpack our clothes! Nice kitchen set up - great for a family with food allergies that had to cook several meals. The owner was great. It was so fantastic to deal with a real person. Her responses were quick and she was so thoughtful about advice in the city!!

We loved staying in the lovely old building, much nicer than 4 star hotels, more a boutique hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We were very lucky with the weather so could swim opposite the hotel. A beautiful walk in to the old town at night for tapas, with the see on our left and very attractive architecture to our right. We liked everything and will return. It was in a great location, lovely cafés for breakfast/lunch also some nice boutiques around.

The BEST location possible! The hotel has an amazing bar/restaurant looking over the ocean, which is hard to find in San Sebastián. The room was beautifully decorated and perfect for what we needed. They even had towels we could take down to the beach. The location of this property is perfect. Just a short walk into old town and a short walk to the beach. Definitely don’t need a car staying here. We were on a motorcycle and were able to park free right outside the hotel. We felt the bike was safe as there were many other bikes and scooters parked most with no security locks. The room itself was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again.
