Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The city itself is very nice, and you can spend 2–3 days visiting. Since we came for the race, we didn’t see much, but we did visit the top 5 attractions listed on TripAdvisor. We visited the Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, the Temppeliaukio Church (which I highly recommend; I’m not usually a churchgoer, nor am I religious, but this church really impressed me), Helsinki Cathedral, the Old Market Hall (where I also had a traditional dessert), and Uspenskin Cathedral, an Orthodox cathedral.

Loved everything about the city and vicinity.
Loved everything about the city and vicinity. Make sure to visit: (1) Market square; (2) Take a tour with a city planner ("Ataman" tours"); (3) If you grew up reading books about Moomin family of trolls - there is a great "Moomin" shop close to the Market Square; (4) take a boat to Island of Suomenlinna (note: if you have tram tickets for "AB" area, they'd work for the boat) and while there, make sure to visit their delightful Toy Museum and their little cafe; (5) Löyly sauna is the must and you do not have to wear speedos: all the guys were in normal swim trunks (you can rent them right there as well); (5) Visit Uutela forest (~ 40 minute ride on a train).
Just walk around and talk to the locals: everyone speaks perfect English and we found that it is not true that Finns hate small talk: everyone was warm and friendly and talked to us plenty.

Helsinki is a very safe and walkable city and although it was cold, getting around was no problem. The people are very friendly and a credit to their city. Lots to see and do. Trams everywhere if you need them. Big wide streets and shopping centres that are really bright and clean. Overall I would highly recommend a visit, three days at least.

Interesting city , nice to visit in the summer with lots of sightseeing. Especially for those who like walks by the sea or taking a trip with a boat. There are issues with renovation which happen all over the city during the summer but hopefully you can avoid them. Public transport is great, people know english very well, eating is quite expensive by average European standards but with the right schedule maybe you can manage. Make sure to visit Tallin and Porvoo as well

Perfect destination to get acquainted with the famous...
Perfect destination to get acquainted with the famous Finnιsh culture, style and design. A walkable downtown and a very convenient way to move by the extremely accurate and clean public means of transport. Happy people loving outdoor activities, socializing throughout the long summer evenings at pubs and cafes, Perfect English spoken anywhere. Unforgettable coffee experience for coffee lovers in numerous famous brand shops. We loved especially "Johan & Nyström" in Kanavaranta district. Very good Finnish beers at Public Corners and Molly Malone's.
The Apartment is indeed very well connected with the public Transport System. With a few steps you can get to the Tram and Bus lines, but we didn't notice any traffic noise in the night. Even the metro is in comfortable walking Distance.
On top of that there are many great Restaurants in the area wich are much cheaper that the ones in the City Center!
Also the public Saunas in the area are much cozyer and more authentic than the ones in the City Center.
The owner is very friendly and flexible, kind regards and many thanks!
The city centre and market place are within walking distance. For those who don't want to walk can take the tram which runs regularly close to the building. It's located in a relatively quiet neighbourhood and away from the hustle and bustle of city centre. There is a supermarket nearby too. All in all a cheap economical hostel for travellers on budget. The staff was cheery and helpful and available 24/7 which was helpful because we arrived almost at midnight.
Amazing vibe and decor! Expectations blown!
Right in the city center and close to train to airport.
Staff gave a warm welcome and provide us with a room well before check in time! (No other hotel ever done that for me).
Room was spacious and clean... Everything you need.
Breakfast had several choices and delicious. Even had green healthy juice available... This would be a breakfast place I would go to in London.
Many facilities like the supermarket downstairs, luggage rooms, fully equiped kitchen and even if you check-out you can still use the commom areas. My overal experience was very good.
Some could say it is a little to far from the city center, but it is next to the hippest part of the town, where there are many bars, restaurants, very often cheaper than in the city center.
The room was comfortable, although not the most comfortable bed I’ve had in hotels. Everything was clean and accessible, the breakfast was excellent, and had plenty of choices. The location was perfect; very easy access to the main train station as well as other public transport, and also central enough that much of the city center could be explored by foot from the hotel.
Excellent location, just 8 minutes with a cab to city center, the condo was very cosy and neat, just a block away for a tram halte although we did take a cab and ubber oftenly, with ubber to city center was just 8 euros and a cab we took the first day was just 14 euros, thus very cheap compare to other European cities. the friendliness of the people everywhere,
Room was really big, comfy beds and comfortable furniture arrangement. Helpful and friendly staff. Tasty breakfast , plenty of food choices. Even though we travelled by car, we decided to reach city center on foot/by tram - though the hotel is quite far from center, it took us 15-20minutes to center, as public transport near hotel is really easy accessible.
Very kind and friendly staff. Not far too much from the city center. Bed was comfy. Good price quality ratio. Amazing breakfast. If you have the same breakfast outside it would cost more than 50% of a night at Valo Hotel probably. They extended our checkout hour by an hour for free. They have luggage room free of charge if you arrive early.
The hotel is very well designed, staff was suoer friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of food to choose from. Bonus point for being able to pick when I want to go breakfast.
The city center is not very close, but it can be reached quickly with tram 9, so transportation wasn't a problem.
Very new Hotel, located at the very City Center, at the Design District. Beautiful rooms, well designed, very modern. Breakfast was very good, very rich in options, and plentiful. It has got a Sauna, which was excellent and a very well equipped Gym (open for 24 hours).
The room was well organized and comfortable, there was no noise from the other rooms audible and the bed was lovely. The hotel is close to the city center and 10-15 minutes walking from the main train station with many restaurants close by.
Friendly, professional staff. A clean and conveniently located, city center hotel. Tram station and taxi ranks in front of the hotel. Convenience store and fast food close by. Walking distance to bus and train stations, shops, museum, etc.
We like that this cute boutique hotel is on a very quiet street very close to Market Square. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful.
Hotel is located in city center. Most of the tourist attractions are within walking distance. There are many shopping malls nearby. Breakfast was very satisfying. Special thanks to receptionist who upgraded our room .
- Location: 2 minutes from the bus and train station.
- 15-20 minutes to: city center and airport.
- Comfortable rooms.
- Grocery stores within a 5-minute walk.
- Easy check-in and check-out.
- It felt really safe.
It was a life saving time, I was need a comfort time for sleep in a quiet area. Easy and cheap to reach this place by bus even in the late evening from airport. Thank you very much!
The hotel was good and the location is in a neighborhood which has everything, shops, restaurants, etc. It was walkable to the pier and city center. Breakfast also good.
