FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

It's the capital of the administration department Highlands and a very nice city, not too big, at both sides of the river Ness. Old and interesting architecture, nice shops, good restaurants. We can recommand the "Rocpool" (parking are on the opposite of the road, not far away). There are 2 ways to pass Inverness, both are rather easy. Loch Ness is rather close and do I need to tell you something about THAT???

Inverness is a major city in Northern Scotland, and, as such has many and varied facilities. Plenty of opportunities to eat out, or just enjoy a drink. The people we met were friendly and helpful. Our favourite places were the Inverness Botanical Gardens and the Falls of Foyers, (which are about 15 miles away)

Lovely city with some really beautiful parts.

Lovely city with some really beautiful parts. Clearly a seedy side (there was a major assault not 50m from our door on one night!), which is true of any city, but Inverness is small enough for it to feel cheek by jowl with the nicer parts. Great range of places to eat and things to do. Easily walkable to everywhere.

It’s a surprisingly small down that feels a bit empty in the day - mostly comes to life at night with all the live music in bars. For tourists, seems mostly a stopping point en route to Loch Ness rather than a destination of its own.

It was my 3rd stay in waverley. The hotel is very well localised. From there is close to interesting points like a castle or tasty restaurants or finally beautiful path along river. Quality of rooms is adequate to prices. If you book the cheapest hotel in Inverness don't expect high standards. bathroom and my room were clean what is important for me. TV in the room.Always fresh towels and bin bags on request. Staff nice and chatty. I recommend for people which want to travel, see beautiful Higlands and want to reduce costs of journey

Location was great, staff were super nice and welcoming, bed was very comfy and we slept great. Street outside was very noisy, Saturday night but soundproofing was super so you could only hear the loudest screamers faintly - good combo of being able to step out right into the action but also being able to escape the mayhem. Also the other patrons were nice, nobody loud and drunk at late hours (I think the first hotel we've stayed at in Scotland where this was the case). Nice bathroom, very clean. Would definitely stay again.

Friendly welcome from host who is a mine of information about Scotland and Inverness, from lovely anecdotes to tips for places to visit and things to do. Rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, every taste catered, be it fresh fruit salad, yogurt or porridge to a full cooked breakfast. I checked in bit latter than normal but Phil was there to greet me, he also kindly let me store my bike in his shed over night (very grateful as was in Scotland to cycle the Northcoast 500). The room was warm and cosy and clean and the rest of the house looked very smart and welcoming. The breakfast was all laid out beautifully with lots to choose from, hot and cold, there was also someone there to help serve the breakfast!

Joyce and Alan were wonderful hosts. We felt very welcome and “at home”. They told us a lot about Scotland that we didn’t know and we also laughed a lot, which is always a good thing. The artwork (wall art and wood carvings of birds) is outstanding. Why not a perfect score? Nobody believes perfect scores. This is an honest review that you can believe. You won’t be disappointed. Full Scottish breakfast was the best in Scotland and there were many other breakfast options. The host cooked a hot breakfast for us early in the morning before our reserved tour to the Isle of Skye. The host couple were very friendly and kind. They also allowed luggage storage after check-out. The room was clean and cosy. We also liked the host's list of recommendations in Inverness.
