Macclesfield has a real personality, history and character.
Macclesfield has a real personality, history and character. One Sunday a month they have the Treacle Market, but it was cancelled due to Storm Bert. The silk museum was also closed, which was disappointing, so it could be worth another trip. We were only there overnight but felt a really pleasant vibe. We lived in Macclesfield over 18 years ago, and got married there, so this was a nostalgic trip. The town has become quite trendy in the intervening years with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. A good base to visit Peak District.
A good base to visit Peak District. Shopping centre in decline. Local bus services in decline but possible to reach Hayfield and Buxton. Plus very good train service to Manchester, London, Birmingham etc. Some good eateries - especially excellent Plums Kitchen.Guest review byDavidFrance - 10.0

I like Macclesfield because it is a pretty town with good links to Manchester if you need the big city, the Peak District if you like walking, and Buxton if you want a bit of culture. I came for the silk museum and the Paradise Mill which I can recommend both. The Treacle Market on the last Sunday of the month was a good experience. The weather was sunny, but often was a chill strong wind, I missed a hat. It takes only 30 minutes to travel by train to Manchester, and about 2 hours to London. There are good restaurants and pubs! There are many places to take a nice walk in the nature of the surrounding area, but unfortunately I had to postpone them.Guest review byAlineSwitzerland

We did a walk from the hotel to a waterfall and on to White Nancy, a rather unique folly (about an hour but be warned it is very hilly!). We stopped at the nearby Bulls Head on the way home for a well deserved pint! We had never visited this area before and were blown away by how lovely it was - well worth visiting.
