We stayed in Ovenden. Halifax looked great for bars and food - there was a concert on a Piece Hall when we were there. I would recommend Hebden Bridge, Ovenden and Haworth. I have always loved the Piece Hall as a place to sit and have a drink. Having now attended a music event there I can recommend it as a gig venue. The beauty of the venue, with the hills behind and the Teskey Brothers playing live was something very special. There is also live music for free at the Westgate Arcade every Saturday afternoon in the summer. Sowerby music festival was on just down the road while we were in Halifax, which was a lot of fun. Plus we went over to Saltaire where the dragon boat festival was on in Roberts Park. It was my first time in Halifax for more than 40 years and the first time, as an adult (albeit now elderly) that I've had an opportunity to explore, and I loved it. Just one suggestion: I'd have enjoyed reading more of the history of the various places which I'd not expected to see. A few more information displays, such as the one at the Halifax Gibbet, would have been both interesting and informative. This is not a grouse: now that I'm home, I can Google stuff, but when I unexpectedly came across interesting sights when I was actually in Halifax, more details would have been fascinating.Guest review byJanet - 2.0
