We liked being so close to the water and having the convenience of a bar and restaurant in our hotel. In the morning, we enjoyed watching people kayak and swim along the shore, and then walked up the steep hill to eat breakfast in another inn just for something different. Upon checkout, a kind hotel employee drove his Range Rover up the steep hill in front of us. That helped to relieve all the stress of driving our underpowered stick-shift rental car up the steep narrow drive while imagining another car coming down the hill towards us. Once we were on our way, we drove to nearby Hartland Point and after walking around the shops and restaurants where we purchased a wonderful book called The Salt Path: A Memoir by local author Raynor Winn (highly recommend it), we spent several hours hiking the gorgeous SW Coast Path. That was one of our best experiences.

Hartland is a lovely little village with some local stores and amenities, although bigger shops need a visit to Bideford. It's a great location to explore the countryside and the North Devon coastal path.

A good base to do coastal walks to Clovelly and Hartland Quay. The village itself has pubs for dining, cafe, restaurant and fish and chip shop. Two convenience stores one with Post Office. Hartland Abbey and gardens about a 20 minute walk away using public footpath.
Short drives to Bude, Bideford and Barnstaple.
A good place for stargazing! I actually saw comets during my stay!

Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful.
Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful. Donal and Sarah are exceptional host and their team of staff are also first class. My room was bright and had a great view. Breakfast was well cooked with a good selection from the cold buffet. I chose to eat my evening meal in the bar. Food was freshly cooked to order and very tasty. Good selection of drinks are also on offer.. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and intend to go back later in the year. Hartland is a hidden treasure.

The location is fantastic both for hiking and also doing some esay-going exercising like going for runs along the beautiful coast. The view is stunning, the hotel a great place to stay and the hosts there wonderful people to meet.
After a long period not visiting places due to Covid, it's easy to forget how exceptional B&B places are here in Devon. But even for Devon standards, the service at Philham House was just spectacular. Plenty of space, the most comfortable bed in a long time, peace and quiet, and an exquisite, friendly and fun service - without being intrusive in any way. Close to amazing beaches (especially Welcombe Mouth) and wonderful eateries.
I will be back for sure. Strongly recommended.
Nice, quite cottage, overlooking the Devon Hartland peninsula country side with a glimpse of the sea . Two nice, large double bedrooms (ensuite), large lounge/dining room, well equipped kitchen. Nice terrace to sit in. Owners very helpful and friendly also providing useful advice on places to visit in the area . Pet friendly - my dog was most welcome and well catered for! Freshly baked bread, milk, sugar tea and coffee waiting for us on arrival .
Hosts were very welcoming, provided some essentials such as homemade bread, eggs, milk butter etc, and delicious cake! Also helpful with suggestions for places to visit and eat. Location was great for exploring Devon and Cornwall and for walks such as the south west costal path. It’s perfect for taking dogs on holiday, ours loved running around the paddock. The cottage was very homely, spotlessly clean and had everything you could need!
A lovely warm welcome by Rosie, and she had put milk and a cream tea in the fridge for our arrival which was lovely. The property was clean and everything we needed was catered for. The beds were very comfortable. Hartland is so quaint and beautiful and Hartland Abbey is amazing and just down the road. such a great property, great value for money and perfect for a stay in Hartland, thanks Rosie.
Suitable located only a walk from the village centre Very helpful owners. Everything clean and in good condition. Clear explanations on how use the facilities. Flexibility on check out times as I had to dress up for a family funeral that began at 1.00pm. Enormous breakfast choice.
Excellent facilities. A very comfortable and well appointed cottage. Everything was there that most people would need and we were grateful for this when we had two very stormy days. The location is close is the South West Coastal path and lovely walking areas.
The room was very updated with a comfortable bed. The hotels room were in a different part than the pub so it was quiet. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating and the food in the pub is nice. The area around the hotel has spectacular scenery.
Lovely Inn in a village setting, halfway between Bideford and Bude. Staff absolutely first rate, welcoming and friendly. Food very good. Rooms very clean and beds very comfortable. Would highly recommend. I have actually booked a return visit.
Right by the sea and surf. Magical! Love the small hotel and lovely managers. Nice to have the Wreckers Restaurant at hand. Such a romantic site and they even have excellent wifi-fi!
Great location on the South West Coast Path, right at the sea. A beautiful sunset view and the sounds of smashing waves. Good food and drinks. Bonus points for the packed lunches!
From our point of view, we would normally stay somewhere within walking distance of a pub for meals but in winter this was not possible. However, in the summer it would be easy.
Rosie is a natural host and goes the extra mile for her guests Loved the area so quiet and tranquil Has everything and more for self catering with Rosie extra touches
Breakfast was excellent, although I would say that because we were self catering and I cooked it. This is our 2nd stay at thimble cottage and won't be our last.
Loved the simplicity of the place, set in beautiful Devonshire countryside with amazing views! Friendly and helpful hosts, would definitely stay again!
