What was meant to be a day trip up and back from Cornwall for a meeting turned into me, sat in a car park, searching hotels at 8 pm on a Friday because Murphy's Law laughed at my hubris.
I booked and drove directly there, arriving about 10 minutes after booking. Despite my late, unexpected arrival during the middle of dinner service, they met me with smiles, kindness, and patience. They sorted my check-in and sorted my bad day with a much-needed glass of wine.
The room itself was perfect for my needs, but it would have suited for a longer stay, too. I had the family room (my young daughter was with me), air we both found the beds to be super comfortable and a much needed respite from my poor planning.
I actually suffer from OCD, so normally, I keep that in mind when I discuss cleanliness. However, I can say that I was relieved to find that it was spotless, smelled fresh and inviting, and I was happy that I could walk around on the floor without slippers (you don't know me, but those who do would be surprised by this). The linens were crisp and fresh, the pillows were so comfortable, the coffee service was stocked and such a blessing this morning. I didn't make it to breakfast, unfortunately, but judging from the rest of my stay, I'm sure it would have been fantastic.
Parking was abundant. I couldn't hear any other patrons, which meant I slept a little better than I meant to (hence the missed breakfast). All around, it was just a fantastic stay.
I can't thank the staff enough for saving me from myself, and I highly recommend them. I will definitely be staying again next time I'm up...but I'll prebook this time, and maybe even bring a change of clothes or toiletries. 😂
Small town, locals can be a bit rowdy. Pubs are okay-ish and other places to eat. Great location in the breks, planty of places to get outdoors but be aware of the noisy jets from RAF Lakenheath - your 8am alarm call!

We booked our room in order to visit attractions in nearby towns. The local people whom we met were very friendly, helpful and entertaining. We only spent the evenings in Brandon itself but we found it a pleasant town with ample pubs and food outlets available. I would certainly recommend a stay in Brandon as a centre for exploring this lovely part of the country.

There are many interesting period properties in Brandon.
There are many interesting period properties in Brandon. The Little Ouse runs through the town and is a good place for canoeing, and river walks. There is a lock which allows bigger boats to pass the weir on to the lower river. Brandon is very close to Thetford forest and has a large country park with lots of bike and walking trails, as well as high climbing ropes for the more adventurous youngsters, Lakenheath air base is a stone's throw away and is a popular spot for aircraft enthusiasts. Brandon is a short drive from other historic places, such as Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Ely.

Brandon is a small town right on the edge of Thetford Forest...
Brandon is a small town right on the edge of Thetford Forest, a perfect base from which to explore the forest & all it has to offer, from walking & cycling to fishing and boating. There aren't many shops in Brandon, but there is a first-rate cafe opposite The Bell pub which serves wonderful breakfasts and reasonably priced meals. It seemed to be popular with bikers but we didn't feel intimidated or unwelcome. There is an Aldi supermarket if you need to stock up on any supplies.
The Old Fire Station is quaint and quirky, as described, with clever use of space to fit in all the facilities you need. The owner takes great pride in the property, which is cosy, comfortable, clean and tidy. Very attentive communication from the owners.
The Old Fire Station is centrally located for days out with the children, such as Brandon Country Park, High Lodge or places further afield accessed via the local trainline. The bowling alley just opposite was a great way to spend a couple of hours.
Would recommend this as a place to stay.
The hotel was lovely and they even upgraded us on arrival to their best room! My wife and I had a lovely weekend off and were very pleased with our accommodations. The breakfast was great as well and the portions were substantial. The room was very clean and comfortable, and we appreciated the view over the river. It is only a 10 minute drive to Aqua Sana in Thetford Forest, (we spent our Saturday there) and we felt it was a much better value than other accommodations in the area. We would come back again!
Not much, the hotel is very much in need of tlc, although it was clean, the windows in the dining were in need of a good clean. This hotel seems to be a workman's stay, our bed was on a slope and so we're the floors outside of the room, the floors were full of plaster from the shoes of the workmen, there was unfinished work to the outside of the property giving a scaff holding view for breakfast. I wouldn't say it was value for money for a midweek stay. We would not return.
it is a very small hotel in the back of a pub built in the 1730’s. The rooms are immaculately clean and comfortable. There was a confusion in the rooms assignment. The owners, Mariann and Allan, were wonderful and came right away to rectify the situation, offered a refund for the first night and a free drink! After the fact, it was hilarious
The owners are delightful, friendly and fun.
Very friendly staff, lovely cooked breakfast.
Our bedroom size was good and a very comfortable bed and pillows! Also, plenty of parking available!
We went for a lovely looped walk around Brandon by the river. We have no complaints about the stay....brilliant value. Thank you :)
Bridge Hotel Brandon exceeded our expectations. The family room was set up thoughtfully to comfortably fit our family of 4. The bathroom was clean and well appointed. The parking was plentiful. The breakfast was delicious and the staff preparing the food were very kind.
The reception lady was very friendly. I was in the annex on the other side from the main hotel. The room was clean and I was able to park my car right next to the room (there's only one space next to the annex otherwise you need to use the car park close by).
Extremely friendly owners and staff. Fantastic selection and quantities of breakfast very well served. Good hot shower. Hotel itself was in a lovely setting by the river The conservatory where breakfast was served was beautiful.
Very nice clean quadruple room in an annex to the main hotel, that was quiet despite the main road right outside. Lovely bathroom, good tea and coffee facilities and the wifi worked well enough for effective video-conferencing.
Clean, tidy, very contemporary styling and the hosts were extremely attentive and friendly- what more could one want! Will definitely be returning the next time I am in Brandon - thank you!
Room, ensuite and bed in Bury (in the annexe) were all clean and comfortable. Breakfast (in the hotel) was beautifully prepared, plentiful and served with a friendly face.
The shower was excellent and the room had everything I needed. The location is great for exploring Brandon, Swaffham, Oxborough Hall and Gooderstone Water Gardens.
A well-equipped and very friendly hotel - very helpful staff, great food and comfortable rom with everything I needed for a quick stay. Clean and quiet.
