I visited with my young grandchildren to attend the Wigtonshire Book Festival which was a great success, as was the accommodation.
However on the Sunday evening, after the Book Festival, There was nowhere suitable available in Dumfries to take three children for an evening meal before travelling home to Stirling. Quite disappointing.

Dumfries is a mecca for all things Rabbie Burns; it boasts the site of his original grave, a Burns museum, the house where he last resided, his local pub and more besides. The people of Dumfries are exceptionally friendly and the town is steeped in history. The River Nith provides a romantic backdrop which is very atmospheric at night. Dumfries is easily accessible by road and rail and easy to get around. There are some very characterful places to visit and with more visitors, the variety of places to eat and drink will surely increase.

A town that is down on its luck but a lot going on to improve it at the moment. And it's a stronghold of Robert Burns history as well as being handy for some excellent countryside, coast, hills, etc. Great mountain-biking trails. A couple of really good places to eat (check out something fine at the Globe Inn).

The area is convenient to a beautiful castle ruin and nice birdwatching reserves on the River Nith. There were some restaurants in the town, but we had delicious dinner at the Friars Carse which is also open to non- hotel guests for dinner.
Arrived and had to go to adjoining hotel for keys. This hotel is defo for workers and homeless people. The room smelled of feet or smelly socks. Shower had mould all round with ceiling paint peeling off. Tv didn’t work wired hanging out at the back. No batteries for the remote. Management should be visited by health and safety along with hygiene dept of the Dumfries council. Don’t know how they are getting away with telling lies and providing a disgraceful service to the paying guests
Stayed with friends as we had a wedding nearby. Rooms where immaculate, bathrooms where spotless. I travel for work & stay in lots of hotels, this was different there was character & both of the owners where just lovely- even asking if we needed them to drop us at the wedding venue. Nothing was a problem for them al all. Really couldn’t recommend enough, was sad to leave! Oh also, breakfast was delicious, a great bonus!
Stayed in a family room which was reasonably spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. Selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and some biscuits in the room which was also equipped with hairdrier, iron etc.
Staff were all really friendly.
Buffet breakfast was decent quality and nothing ran out.
Lots of parking out the back of the hotel.
About a ten minute walk into the centre of Dumfries.
We arrived mid evening and were leaving early the next morning. The hotel arranged for us to eat in the restaurant even though it was winding down for the night and delivered a continental breakfast to our room so we could eat early the next morning before setting off. The bedroom was spotless and the beds very comfy. I will definitely stay again if passing through or visiting Dumfries.
Comfortable accommodation, breakfast set up very good, with optional porridge (which was delicious) followed by a buffet style Scottish breakfast, plus toast, cereals, fruit, yogurt etc. Lovely building and in accesssible area for access to Dumfries or to explore Dumfries and Galloway further.
The staff we met were very helpful and friendly and there was plenty of parking on site.
A beautiful country house hotel. The public areas of the hotel are lovely with a log fire in the lounge next to the reception area and with beautiful grounds. All on the edge of Mabie Forest, but only 10 mins drive from the centre of Dumfries.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean and well kept but also full of character. Breakfast was delicious.
The location was perfect for the town centre, a five minute walk away. It was also across the road from the churchyard containing Robert Burns' mausoleum and round the corner from his house. A ten minute walk took us to the Dumfries Museum and camera obscura.
We always enjoy everything about our stays at Woodland House Hotel. Our room was perfect for us, breakfast excellent and service with a smile, a chat, and however much time you want to spend there eating. No pressure in vacating the table
The hotel was a pleasant place to stay over for our stop over in Dumfries. The bed was fine and the room was warm enough. We were pleased to be able to leave our car in the car park between checkout and leaving Dumfries.
Don't be fooled by this being an older building, it's a clean, comfortable, homely place that's very well run by host Colin. Convenient for Dumfries town centre and around 200m from the railway station. Great breakfast!
Nice clean spacious room with a four poster bed delicious breakfast and very friendly staff very close to Dumfries and other parts of Dumfries and Galloway easily accessible public also very clean plenty of free parking
This hotel has a great team in the kitchen and the dinner and breakfast was delicious. The setting for the hotel is brilliant and if you're into Robert Burns, this is definitely the best place to stay in the area!
Rooms are very spacious and have all you need. Hotel is in an attractive location close to the ring road around Dumfries. Plenty of parking and a convenient drop off area when you arrive. Breakfast was great.
It was in a very convenient location and the staff were very pleasant. Also the facilities were very good, as someone who spends a lot of time in hotels for work, the gym was one of the best I’ve saw.
