Such a beautiful castle in a delightful location. Planning only one night, I just had to stay for another. Great breakfast.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, could fault it apart from some noisy neighbours in one of the other rooms

We booked this as the wedding reception was here. So the location was great for that purpose. The breakfast was good with lots of options. We ate lunch in the restaurant as well and it was quite tasty. There was plenty of parking.
This family-run hotel in the center of Gretna offers a warm welcome in homey surroundings. It is near to Gretna Register Office, Anvil Hall and the famous blacksmith's shop.

A lovely area which provides some lovely walks of varying lengths (downloadable from the Langholm Walks website) and some interesting history. It is a quiet and peaceful and can be used as a base to visit attractions further afield.

At the junction of many roads so easy to go off exploring in different directions. Some beautiful parkland with bridges over the river - and open public toilets! Helpful tourist office with lots of leaflets. Would recommend the prehistoric trail of Eskdale but you may need boots and a bit of energy to get up the steep hills to the forts. People friendly and a useful bakery and large co-op. Lots of buses stopping so may be suitable for a visit by public transport.

The castle & racecourse by the river were lovely, I though areas were a little run-down, but when exploring the town with dogs, you would find those areas. The river walk was lovely, & the town itself was wonderful. We tried to eat in the Pub in town, the barman said we could let the dogs off the leads in the back, but then a young woman told us that we couldn't, this put us off staying for something to eat, which was a shame as the Vegetarian menu looked wonderful.

Langholm is a beautiful town soaked in history.
Langholm is a beautiful town soaked in history. The lovely river Esk runs right through the town. There are several lovely walks in the area, my favourite is round the Duchess's Bridge. There are a few places to eat all very reasonably priced. We had a lovely meal in the Douglas Hotel, the food was excellent, just a small point I felt that the waitresses who served could have been a bit more friendly. I will definately return to Langholm but perhaps choose other accommodation.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Douglas hotel. The staff were super nice and the room was cozy, clean, full of sunlight, and right in the centre of town. I liked that there were thick and low pillows and that coffee, tea, but also instant porridges was available. We went to relax and evade the city for a few days and that was the perfect place to be. There are several walking paths you can take from there, and although the village is very small, you can walk to grocery stores, cafes, and a few shops around there.
We liked the location of the hotel, the friendly staff and that they welcome dogs. The new owners are working really hard on this old pub so go bearing this in mind - the staff work really hard. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean, and the bed linen is fresh and spotless - the full breakfast is delicious too!
Loved the location, Langholm sits attractively astride the River Esk, with the Eskdale hotel at its centre. Staff here are friendly and attentive. The food is delicious, highly recommend the scallops served on Stornaway black pudding or the chicken stuffed with haggis.
We’ll be back
