Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.
Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.
Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.
Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.
Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.
Centre is beautiful, historic and feels safe. Plenty fab eateries. Be warned....lack of buses from centre from early evening. Certainly worth visiting and close to gateway to broads if river trip on cards from Wroxham.

Been twice, its a very special trip down a medieval quarter of the city that brings us back there. The old cobbled streets and 12th Century churches are amazing.
The market place is a must, lots of variety.

This was not what I expected, Norwich was a real eye opener for me. The people were so helpful and friendly in general. I have just this week moved here from the south coast and wish I’d been able to move 4 months earlier and experienced the summer. I had dinner at two restaurants, one Bangladeshi and the other a steak restaurant, both exceptional.
There isn’t anything that I can fault, perhaps that may change as I’m now a Norfolk resident, but I sincerely hope not.

The best thing about Norwich apart from it's great cultural...
The best thing about Norwich apart from it's great cultural and historic medieval associations is it's central location in Norfolk. There are rail links radiating out to Great Yarmouth, Sheringham, the West Midlands, London
and all stops on the way. So you can leave your car at the hotel for a day trip, and not worry about parking issues and speed limits. Plenty of top end shops and restaurants to visit.
I needed a cheap simple hotel for one night as I was in Norwich for the evening. I checked in late and left early so didn't need many facilities. But the bed was comfy, the TV worked, the room was clean and quiet, the shower was hot, the towels were clean and there were tea & coffee facilities plus a fridge if I'd needed it. Plug sockets by the bed are always helpful. Plenty of parking.
Check-in - receptionist was nice and the process was easy
Check-out - simply pop the key card in a post box and leave
Since this is the third time I've stayed at this hotel, and twice within the space of about a month, I had the comfort of knowing the location. The surrounding scenery, and local gardens, looks even better in Summer. It is a short walk to the city centre.
The bed was particularly comfortable, the staff representative pleasant and I was happy with the facilities on hand, particularly the toilet/shower room.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Georgian Townhouse. It’s in a good location - a short walk to the city centre but quiet in the evenings. The decoration is modern and fun. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything I needed. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was delicious. The breakfast was very good too. The hotel is easy to find and the car park spacious.
Excellent location 5 minute walk to Norwich train station some lovely restaurants and pubs within easy reach city centre 15 minutes walk Hotel was very clean and well relaxed staff made it feel like home from home carpark at the rear of the hotel made it easy but is limited to only a few spaces with no charge though certainly enjoyed our stay would definitely return again
We had previously stayed before and really liked the location of the hotel as its city centre. We were pleasantly surprised how much improved the room was to our previous stay. We later learned they had recently redecorated it.
