With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

It is a great get away city for 2-3 full days. We stayed 5 days, but we went to a festival for 2 days and didn’t get to do everything else that we wanted to. I did not realise how much I would love Budapest.
I did not realise how much I would love Budapest. Such a fun and vibrant city with so much to see and do (the caves, the baths, museums, galleries, churches (the Basilica is beautiful), great food, bakeries and patisseries wherever you go). The scale and architecture of the buildings are amazing. Being just a short flight from the UK it is a great destination for a 3 or 4-day city escape. Szentendre is also not far away and has a great Mediterranean feel if you'd like to venture further. I just stayed on day, so can't offer a broad description. The city is very nice, I stayed close to the river, so walked mostly in that area. Also visited the Museum of Fine Arts, which is full of art treasures and the building itself is amazing. Public transportation is OK. Buses require using tickets, which need to be bought on special kiosks, but on the subway is possible to pay with credit card directly.
