FAQs about hotels in Galway

Cracking City of Craic

Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.

The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly colored shops and restaurants.

Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which has an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.

Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.

Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

The atmosphere is amazing especially in the Latin Quarter. Lots of souvenir shops and buskers on the street. Pubs with live music all week. There is also a lot of history not too far from the centre of town. Lots to do with in walking distance. Quite a few free activities in town also.

We are not rapid checklist types.

We are not rapid checklist types. We go to off-the-beaten-path sites and avoid tourist traps. Galway has both. We found it really charming once we escaped the crowded streets in the Latin Quarter, but you can find quiet times there, too, when the tour-buses leave.

I was surprised at the number of tourists in Galway town.

I was surprised at the number of tourists in Galway town. It's a very interesting and atmospheric place reflecting the Irish love of music on every corner and every pub. We tried to book several recommended restaurants but they were full. This however, worked to our advantage as for several nights, we ate and drank at The Quays...which should not be missed, enjoying the live music as we ate and drank (not too much drink though!) It was the Irish evening I'd dreamed of for sooo long.

Galway was a great place to start our touring along the Wild Atlantic Way meandering along the coastline and through the national parks. Galway City has plenty to offer with great food, accommodation, cafes, walks, shopping, even catching the bus to Salthill and walk along the promenade and least but not last great Guinness.

Location was great as we trained into Galway from Dublin. And we watched all over the city center very conveniently. Just about a minute from Erye Square. The staff were efficient and polite during check in and for our stay. The room was nice even though the hotel is older. It seemed clean upon check-in.
