Hotel Continental Genova, hotel in Genoa

Located opposite Genova Principe Train Station, the Continental is a restored Art Nouveau hotel overlooking the city.

When we arrived we were informed that they moved us to the sister property next door "the Grand Hotel Savoia" From all appearances that was an upgrade for us at the same price. The hotel (savoia) was a beautiful property and the room was also very nice as well as comfortable. People at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to walk to wherever we needed to go and was extremely close to the train station to catch our train.

FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. A beautiful ancient city.

A beautiful ancient city. We visit the Aquarium and the lighthouse and walked in the city. The architecture is interesting and nice building and decorations could be find at any corner. It is a very good place to stop for a day or two while traveling in north Italy. Better to arrive when the weather is good and the view is clear.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. So many twists and turns through small alleyways. Felt magical. Great food scene. Felt like a local. Great small city vibe. Il genovese was our best dinner— very reasonable for a nice dinner. T/terra was a great cheap dinner find! Enjoyably food and 7 dollar pastas! We took a day trip to cinque Terre which was very easy by train. Unfortunately the hiking paths were closed for actual race. In town, we enjoyed the old city sites and the aquarium. Getting around was easy— download the transportation app and you can buy tickets on your phone! Machine tickets were often broken.

Parking was a bit challenging but the town is very large but beautiful. There was a good presence of police officers which was wonderful. They all seemed professional. The lunar park was was enjoyed by the children. The staff there where friendly and the rides seemed well maintained. The staff at the aquarium took time to explain and answer any questions. The aquarium was clean and the exhibits where well placed and planned offering both English and Italian descriptions of animals and sea life. Greatly appreciated by the only limited Italian speaker. The food in the aquarium though understandable limited was above my expectations.

Was traveling around italy and france with my 50yo mom. This was her very first ever experience staying in a hostel atmosphere. She loved it. The kitchen, the breakfast, the terrace, the laundry facilities and the band that happened to play on one of the nights. We had a private room. And mom said it was the biggest ‘hotel’ room she’s ever been in. Also the bed was the widest for me as well. Loved our experience and will definitely recommend to anyone heading that way.

My stay at the Olympia was perfect for my visit to Genova. The friendly hosts, Agostino and Angelo were helpful and enthusiastic with suggestions and recommendations for dining and sights. The location is ideal for exploring the city (old and new areas easily accessible). My room, on the smaller side, fit my budget and had all the amenities needed. A great value for the area, and for Italy in general. I recommend Hotel Olympia - my home in Genova. 🇮🇹

The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.
